Question about Ford Ranger

1 Answer

Got a 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0 V-6 with automatic. The transmission would not shift well, the nuts on cable holder under dash were loose, the tried to adjust cable, but it would not loosen up-when I put the trans in drive and held lever in drive I could not line them up. Just put in park underneath, but now the key turns easily, but will not come out or start truck? It is tough to move the auto trans lever from park to drive, the pointer seams to be off. Any help? Thanks

3.0l V6 A/T. What are the possible problems associated with an automatic transmission not shifting correctly?

MILEAGE??? I would suspect a valve body issue in most cases. It is possible it may be solenoid related as well. If high mileage, there could be clutch issues or even pressure issues due to a defective pump. I would have the transmission module scanned for any codes that may help point you in the right direction

Why is my transmission hard to shift in my 2007 ford focus

There are 2 different vehicles listed on your question. One is a Chevy Blazer, the other is a 2007 Ford Focus. Don't know which is the problem.

Is this a automatic or a stick shift? I will give you the information about an automatic Ford Focus.

The gearshift is locked into Park until you press on the brake pedal. Sometimes for stick shifts, the clutch pedal has the release. Either way, the release signal unlocks the gearshift. The position of the switch on either the brake pedal lever or clutch lever can be bumped by the Drivers feet.

These switches as well as the release on the gearshift must be aligned (timed), adjusted, etc. so that they work properly. Sometimes this is as simple as looking under the dash and securing the loose switch back on its holder on either the brake pedal or clutch lever.

The other part of this question can be internal to the transmissions or binding in the shift cables or rods.

Somewhere here I hope you have the answer you needed the first time it was answered.

1955 Ford Crwn Vic neutral switch will permit start in any gear not just neut or park. Is this a 2 or 3 speed auto transmission? will start in drive selection and only shift once witn no kickdown gear at...

A 1955 Ford would have a Ford-o-matic transmission which has three speeds forward. The transmission starts out in second gear unless you shift into low.
I am not aware of these transmissions having a neutral safety switch.
The 3 speed automatic transmissions that started in low and had a downshift to second under load were first used in the mid 1960s.

2000 sable- can't shift out of park. shifter glides and needle on dash moves there's no gears shifting. is the transmission blown?

Not likely a blown transmission. More of a shifter cable issue. There is an adjustment nut on the ****** end. It could be loose or missing. If the nut is fine you have a broken cable.

Tansmission all the sudden wont shift from 1st

  1. Check your Shift Cable at the Shifter, and at the Transmission. More than likely the Shift Cable came loose at the Shifter.

1997 ford ranger will start and go into gear but wont move. I kept trying untill there was smoke coming out from under the truck that smelled like burned rubber. Did I destroy my transfer case?

If it's a manual shift your clutch is slipping. If so, transmission must be removed and clutch, bearings and pressure plate must be serviced.

1988 ford ranger 2.9l v6 runs great except a little ticking under the hood. main concern though is that it wont shift into drive when i hit the freeway. about 35 top speed. ideas?

I have a 91 ranger. There are two band adjustments on the transmission that is supposed to be adjusted every 60K miles. There are two adjustments, one for overdrive and the other for everything else. The overdrive adjustment is closest to the front of the transmission and the other is back behind it closer to the shift lever on the driver side. The locking nut is a 19" and there is a tool you get for the other nut. I have found a 3/8th (I believe) 12 point socket will fit on the square. You loosen the lock nut, then you tighten the band adjustment bolt to 10 foot pounds. Then you back the bolt off 2 full turns, then hold it in place while re-tightening your lock nut. I had to adjust my bolt in 1/4 turns at a time after test driving to get the transmission to shift just right.
