Question about 2001 Ford Focus
Try spraying some lithium grease into the latch assembly... Since your latch is releasing the primary catch point and not the secondary, it means the latch itself still works... After using the grease and letting it soak for a few mins, close the trunk and pop it several times and hope it fully releases. If not, you could try putting pressure on the trunk by pulling it open as the key is turned. Don't use WD-40
