Question about 1991 Chevrolet Camaro

3 Answers

I replaced the fan plug, the fan relay, and the sensor and my radiator fan still will not turn on. I unplugged the fan and put the battery directly onto the fan leads and the fan works. Any ideas or do I have to reset andything? This is on my 1991 Camero RS 305

The radiator starts to boil over into the over flow at about 220. or do I need a new radiator cap?

  • steveebel Sep 11, 2009

I checked all my wiring and found that I am only getting 5 volts to my sensor, shouldn't it be 12 volts. When I connect the relay directly to the battery it turns the fan on so the relay and the wiring to the fan is fine.
It seams like there is not enough power(5 VDC)to pull the relay in

1994 pontiac sunbird radiator fan not working

Unplug the coolant fan & put battery voltage, directly to it

If it works, in either direction, then get a wiring diagram
& work on testing the control side of the circuit

You can check all fuses, but replacing a blown fuse,
is not a fix, for anything, that caused it to fail

Coolling fans dont work

Check for a blown fuse----look at it & test it
Check for & TEST any fan relays-have to remove them to do so
Then unplug the cooling fan & put battery voltage to it

If the fuse is good, the relay works, the fan works, you may need
a wiring diagram & do some internet searching to find a temp sensor or switch--odds are it will be in the radiator or cooling system somewhere.

Check for wire connectors being off

Have to check the radiator for leaks & the coolant system
for leaks & at least partially remove the radiator, to get rid of
leaves & other road dibris, bird feathers & such

What Switch or control makes the radiater fan come on? and need the diagram for the radiator control switch, 1993 saturn sl2.

Ok. The way your system is set up,you have a fan switch located in the engine block, usually near the top. That fan swtich sends the voltage to the fan motor or to a fan relay then to the motor. You can jump the fan motor directly to make sure the motor itself is not burned out by unplugging the motor and running a jumper wire from your battery pos terminal to the terminals on the fan motor itself..If you have checked the motor and it does work, then the easiest thing to do is simply replace the fan switch. You should have a Coolant temp switch and a radiator fan switch and possibly and Radiator fan relay.I would try the radiator switch first, then replace the relay. The coolant temp sensor is for the computer and usually doesnt tie into the radiator fan switch.try that and repost.Good luck

My fan went, but when I turn it off, it just kept on running and we turn it off thru the battery. Now it's not turning at all. Do we need to get a new fan?????

The fan is powered by a relay, that is controlled by the thermoswitch on the radiator.
Unplug the temperature sensor on the radiator.
If that does not stop the fan, then it is the relay.
Pull that out to confirm.

If it no longer is running, then do the opposite.
Connect the 2 leads at the thermoswitch together, and the fan should come on.
If not, check the relay, and by looking at the diagram on its side, figure out when are the secondary leads to shunt to turn the fan on.
If it does go on, the relay is bad.
If not, then check for current and ground at the fan itself.
If good, then fan bad.

Engine heat get high & whats kind of fan radiator suitable

i am familiar with the car and the problem . the best thing to do is go to the local parts store and ask for an adjustable thermostat fan switch its about 40 dollars you wire it to the battery the fan and a ground mount it near the battery start the car and adjust the knob to the desired fan turn on temp . to fix the setup you have there is a fan turn on temp switch on the passenger side head toward the rear should have one wire on it that grounds the relay on the radiator support . 87 should have one fan one relay sometimes the relay burns and melts the plug you have to buy a replacement plug from a parts store along with a relay so to test it ground the sensor wire with the key on and fan should turn on if it does that's the problem you could also buy a low temp one from summit racing.com the fan will turn on sooner if it still wont turn on the relay is the next culprit check if you have power and a ground with key on at relay plug if you do the relay is bad change it . hope this helps

Cooling system (radiator) fan won't turn off, car has not overheated. It does not turn off at a certain temperature it only turns off when my battery has finally had enough and died. We have unplugged it...

This is most likely due to a faulty temp sensor which screws into the radiator. Once this cools down it should open the circuit and allow the relay to open as well. If the sensor is constantly closed it will close the relay and keep the fan on thus draining the battery. I would replace the relay and sensor assembly due to high heat while these systems are running. The sensor should be nearest the fill neck on the radiator. Let me know if you need anything else.

Radiator fan is not working

Some toyotas have a coolant sensor NOT to be confused with the Temperature sensor. The coolant sensor is located on the radiator it selt, most likely on the bottom and close to the middle. Replace it and the fans should work as needed. Now a temporary fix, unplug the sensor, this will make the fans run only when the engine is running or the key is on the on position. Good luck.
