NO, WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE START POSITION, LIKE WHEN YOU FIRST PUT IT IN, THE DASH LIGHTS ALL COME ON AND IT DINGS. ITS NOT TILL YOU TURN IT TO START IT THAT THERE IS NO POWER. WHEN I TURN IT BACK I STILL HAVE POWER.

If everything goes dead when you turn the key all the way to start, you may just have a very low charge battery. 1st check the battery cable connections to make sure there is no corrosion, and they are tightly attached. Pull out the battery and bring it to a parts store for a free check of the battery's condition. They can tell you if it just needs a charge (and some parts stores will do a quick charge for free also) or if it is in need of replacement. Let me know what they find.

Check as I stated above. When you turn the key to actually start the car, the starter requires a lot of power to crank the engine over. If the battery is very weak, it could cause the problem you describe. The battery may be too weak to supply power to the starter to crank the engine over, so everything goes dead, when you turn the key back, you have power again, but it's only enough to power the lights.

2001 Pontiac Bonn. has no power to the inst. panel when turning the key to accessory position. Other problems that also exist are, no power to the following, radio, heater/acc controls, wipers. When...

I would have suspected the ignition switch, but it sounds like you've replaced it. It is internal to the housing you described. The first thing to do is to actually check for power at the ignition switch. There are 2 connectors going to it. One provides power, the other sends out power when key is turned. Check for good 12V at both the larger red wires, they should be battery powered and live all the time. If you have power on them then turn the key to run, you should have power on the orange wires (ignition feeds). The large yellow wire should only have power when key is in crank position. If there is not 12V at the red wires all the time then likely you have a large (maxi fuse 60A) under the hood electrical center blown. It could also be a blown fusible link coming off the starter battery post that feeds the electrical center if the fuses are good but no power across them.

Why won't my 2001 pontiac bonneville wont start? All it does when i turn the key is click twice

Try checking your ignition fuse. Check your battery and make sure it is good. Check your wires and terminals and make sure they are cleaned and tight. If you do have interior lights, it may be the starter or startr solenoid.

My 2001 pontiac ssei says to service theft system

I would take it to a dealer and have the ignition switch looked at, That is either pass key (pk stamped in key) or pass key 3 (pk3) and the ignition switch is probably having trouble reading to key to disengage the anti theft system, eventually it wont let the car start, and it never happens when your home!

Car won't start. starter doesn't click, I can't get it to start by jumping the starter. the starter is getting power from battery but not from ignition. what could be wrong?

the problem is the passkey security system has locked the starter out out, try this procedure, if this doesn't work u will need to have the dealer test the system.

PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.
