Question about 1993 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

When braking the engine revs reduce so far that the engine cuts out, it starts with a little difficulty but runs a little unevenly, revs dipping. It is possible to drive and behaves itself at speed but again when coming to rest the engine will either dip it's revs or cut out. Checked plugs, ht leasd, coil etc any clues

Sounds like an air filter cloged or a vacume leak. Check your air filter, and look at all the small hoses for rot or a break in them. Pulling in too much air will cause this also, ie vacume leak.

Ok, I want you to check this, get a pair of hose pliers or a good set of needle nose vise grips ( if you have to use the needle nose vise grips find 2 small deep well sockets, say 3\8 " and a 5\16 deep well and put them over the end of the pliers to make a nice pair of hose pliers). Now find the vacuum hose that goes to your brake booster and clamp it off. Start up the engine, if it cranks better and if you can step on the brake peddle and the engine does not lose rpms you have a bad brake booster. *****Do not attempt to drive it this way**** You are just verifying an internal leak in the booster. **** Do not drive it with the booster clamped off****

sounds like the fluid level is low ,start engine hand brake on then put in reverse ,now check fluid level and you will find it low .another quick way is with engine cold pull out the gearbox dip stick and then check level it should be about half inch above the mark .

Uneven idle while running and in park but no check engine light

The idle air control motor is dirty. It's mounted on the throttle body. Clean the plunger and spring with brake clean, you clean use a soft wire brush or tooth brush. Also clean the hole it came out of. Wouldn't hurt to use the brush and clean as far as you can in the throttle body. It will take a second or two to start after you do this, Then run normal afterwards.

2004 ford fiesta zetec 1.4 14v diesel...cutting out!

engine cutting out is a sensor probably the timing sensor. needs replacing. as for braking would think you have a leak in the air line. even with the engine not funning you should be able to apply the brakes upto 3 times.. think this model is not fitted with abs like my sisters. when engine is running rev upto 3000 rev's if it starts to judder. also listen for hissing sound, if you find one repair it. most problems are down to a leaking air line.

1994 gmc sierra pickup 4.3L V6 automatic transmission experiencing difficulties with ODrive = 4th gear, and Drive = 3rd gear, engine revs up to the max properties with little to no forward motion. Rev

You have internal transmission damage I expect the clutches on third and fourth gear are wiped out. Its either that or a solenoid gone bad that holds those clutches pressure get it in a transmission shop soon to avoid whole transmission replacement costs.

Hi there,

If you're willing, we can try checking your computer for trouble codes - this will help identify any electrical issues.

Note: there's a 50/50 chance this procedure will work (as this does work on the 1997 model):

- With gear in Neutral, start engine and rev the car to 2,500 rpm, then 'gradually' reduce revs down to idle speed.
- with park brake secure, slowly cycle the gear lever through each position (down to 1st, then back up, ending in Park)
- turn Airconditioning ON, then OFF - turn engine OFF - Within 5 seconds, perform the following Ignition Key sequence (without starting): ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON (if done correctly, your ODOMETER should display a series of 4-digit codes). Please reply back once you have your codes..... Cheers,

70000 mile brakes ware not even. this never happen in other trucks what size t takes front off and does a 19 socket take back off back brakes I plan to have them cut and change pads

The rear caliper cradle bolts are 18mm. A 19 may round the bolts off a bit.As far as them wearing unevenly we see this alot on the dual piston calipers. This may be due to rust underneath where the pads sit on the cradle. On the caliper cradle you will see some silver tin caliper hardware where the pads sit remove these and check for rust that may have built up benath these and clean if necessary. Once those are clean apply a thin coat of caliper lube then reinstall the caliper hardware. Make sure to also lubricate the hardware with lube before reinstalling your pads.Last but not least apply lubricant to the caliper guide pins. This will reduce that uneven wear you were referring to.

200 Pontiac Grand Am over 3500 RPM loss of power

on almost all gm cars after 96 the engines were governed to not free rev over 4000rpm. when in gear and power braking the rpms stay lower cause of the load on engine. when reving above 3500 rpms the computer cuts back the timing and fuel to reduce engine damage if left to free rev. hop that helps.

Very uneven running

Here are a few things to check check idle speed control , TPS- throttle position sensor and also very important check for vacuum leak on intake any broken hoses or intake itself gasket leaking Very possible for this problem. A simple test is when engine is running up and down use an intake cleaner (in compressed can) and spray around intake manifold if there is a vacuum leak the engine will surge up . This could man intake gasket or vacuum leak. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA.
