Same happened to my 2004 excursion. I changed the battery and alternator and checked all the fuses. It starts with no problem but when I disconnect the battery it dies. I disconnect the alternator while running and do not get the buttery light on on my instrument pannel.

First check to see that the belt for the alternator is still on and feels tight. That way you can see if the belt broke or became loose. If the belt is fine then it could be the alternator. Most auto part stores will test the alternator and battery for free. always test them before you buy a new one.

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

Okay, so I bought a 2001 Ford Focus zx3 5 speed, and when I went to go test drive it, the alternator went (so I thought). anyway, he lowered the price, and I still got it and replaced the alternator. about...

your alternator is still under warranty get a new one, based on your info thats the problem, just make sure when installing the new one the battery polarity is correct because that is one cause of damaging the alternator, reversed polarity will burn regulator ic, once you have installed the new alternator run the engine on idle remove one of the battery connector if the engine still run it means the alternator is charging, if engine stops check wiring connection

Mybe the alternator doesnt work . so the battery uses all the charge then dies. Check the alternator with a Multimeter or take to a close Advance auto part and they will check that for free. God luck

this sounds like bad battery conections. take a part the terminals and clean off the corrosion. more than likely the is some corrosion that is hidden and once everything is clean and tight it should fix your problem.

I have a question about a Kia Rio

I think you have a bad battery. The battery is a big capacitor. The alternator can't take large surges or power draw with a bad battery like turning on the lights. If the alternator wasn't working, the car would have died ans soon as you unhooked the battery. How old is the battery? Have the battery load tested.

Car just started dying

You may have a bad alternator causing the entire vehicle to run off of the battery and not recharging it. Simple test, have it running and momentarily disconnect the battery cable, ither positive or negitive, and if the car dies as soon as you lift the cable, it's not charging. remove your alternator, and visit a local advance auto or autozone with it, and they can test it for free. Also check your fuses and fusable links, as one of them may have been blown.
Good luck!
