It's easier and cheaper to replace them. It's not that expensive, although it might cost you in labor to lift the vehicle, remove the hubs, and install and grease the bearings. In the business it's called R & R (Remove and replace).

Why would the same wheel bearing have to be replaced three times within 100000mi?

Hi Rick, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

The only way a wheel bearing can wear out fast is if it is fighting against really bad alignment, such as TOE being way out cause force against the bearing. BUT not likely. I have a question, are you sure its not tires because a badly chopped tire can sound just like a bearing. Unless the bearing is physically loose I would check the tires. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website at: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

The codes read that there is a erractic wheel speed sensor signal problem ....the abs lights stay on

Many new vehicles including chevys have the wheel speed sensor and or abs sensor connected to the wheel bearing itself. Its a wire going right into the bearing which is sometimes visible. Over time the bearings get a little play in them and causes the sensor to read incorrectly. The only fix is to change the wheel bearings. (they come with the sensor too). Most of the time repair shops are a good option for this repair. Unless it is a bolt on style in which most DIY's can handle it just fine.

How do i get at, and change the rear wheel bearing in my 1999 dodge durango

Wheel bearing should be permant packed. However if you wish to tackle the job. Remove the wheel, remove the cap, remove the carter pin, remove the bearings. Clean, repack new bearings and reasemble. But, before you do check with any auto repair shop or Dodge dealer, bearings may be permantly sealed.

Wheel bearing replacement left front wheel Hello Everyone, I may need to replace the wheel bearing on my right front wheel of my Corolla wagon. How can I know for sure? And how can I find out how to do...

Diagnosing the bearings can be tricky depending on severity of wear. Typically - drone noise at highway speeds, squeeling, clicking or grinding noises at low speeds that reduce during braking, or pull off the wheel and brake assembly and check the bearing for slack or smoothness of rotation by hand. While doing this, check the brake assembly thoroughly - generally a more likely culprit of wheel noise.

Wheel bearing replacement is not for the novice backyard mech. - you will need pullers, press, etc. If you can get a rebuilt assembly - much easier.
