Question about 1992 Mazda 626

Open Question

Hi, I have a 92' 626 auto. The gearbox clunks into first gear all the time when i accelerate from a standing start and the hold light flashes unless it is put in first gear prior to accelerating. I have been told to remove the battery terminal and place foot on the brakes for a miniute which fixes it for a while however it comes back. Plz Help. Steve.

SOURCE: car stalls when accelerating in low gears

I had similar issues on mine. I bought it from the Good Will for less than $1000. :)
It's been totaled i believe at least twice.
Anyways, replace the fuel filter. It's about the size of an oil filter and is very easy to replace.
Also, replace the spark plugs with some good titanium type plugs. They're like $4 from Wal Mart.
Next, put some fuel injector cleaner every other tank of gas or so. This will definitely help.

one thing to check is rear engine mounting i have had a stone wedged in one and it causes a nasty noise when accelerating

SOURCE: traction control light comes on while driving in good weather

My 2002 Millenia just started doing this the other day, while on the freeway when it started doing it i would shut engine off and restart it and it would be good for a while then it would do it again, i am still looking for solution, has any one found one?

SOURCE: Car is not accelerating properly,

this is due to several reasons, could be 1 of your 4 coils needs replacing, could be spark plug/ h t lead problem, could be your catalityc converater has melted, these are very very common problems not only having to keep the oil toped up but also having to change these more expensive componants about every year ,it eats electrics for fun. you need to take it to a mazda garage for a plug in diagnosis.

SOURCE: The rpm fluctuates at idle

It could be several things...low fuel pressure, a lazy 0 2 sensor, and even an IAC. If there isn't any service engine lights coming on, you will need a qualified tech to do the test since a lazy 0 2 sensor has to be looked at with some type of a volts meter and a scanner has the capability of doing a better job yet since you wouldn't have to get underneath the vehicle. Don't be fooled into thinking that it is just one thing; it could be several depending on the mileage.

When changing gear on my 2007 Focus You can hear a clunk sometimes it will clunk when just cruising and when pulling away

your engine and gearbox is has 3 mountings bolted to it.
With the bonnet open the 2 mountings to your left and right carries the suspended weight of the engine and gearbox.
Third mounting thats bolted to the bottom rear of the gearbox and bolted to the subframe is the one that takes care of the back and forward movement when accelerating and changing gear that one needs to be replaced

I have a Toyota Vitz 2007 Auto gear car? What is the gear position 'S'? For waht we can use it?

"S"stands for sport,and is used to add "sparkle" to a lackluster gearbox,(economy driving).it "holds"on to the gears longer so your acceleration is faster through the gears,(uses loads more fuel).with the price of gas being what it is,this setting is best left alone.

What is the "Hold" button for on the '93 Mazda Protege gear shift? (A light that says, "Hold" keeps blinking on and off on my dashboard...I'm assuming they are somehow related?)

hold is used to hold the gears longer in an auto like sports shift mode on newer cars, it should come on and then switch off at start up unless you have it engaged, if its continuingly blinking you have an issue with your gearbox as the auto box will run its own little self diagnostic on start up

hi mate , sounds like the SPIGOT bearing its a little bearing that allows the gearbox to be at a different seed than the engine flywheel and if this is in bad condition it will take the gearbox front shaft to a higher speed than comfortable for gearshift , in the meantime when you go for 1st or reverse gear just engage a gear like 4th without taking your foot off the clutch and then go for 1st or reverse, this will stop the gearbox spining long enough for a smooth shif, oNLY USE THIS METHOD WHILE STaTIONARY and see a professional when you get time.

Priced new output speed sensor €190, went to breakers yard, found similar sensor on mitsubsihi carisma, purchased €20, fitted same no problems since. Touch wood!

Auto transmition wont go into 3rd and 4th gear

I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist

Gearbox on 1999. 1.6 megane sport.

renault gearbox are known to give problems.the clunk you hear might not be in the gearbox sounds more like gearbox mounting i would get it checked first however the whine in fith gear is a differant problem yes i am inclined to agree with you on this one.sorry but it looks like a replacement gearbox is going to be the only answer good luck.adrian
