Question about 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Odometer, speedo not working, transmission won't go past 2nd

Car's been running ok, other than time for a tune-up. Got in this morning, left for work; got a few blocks and realized nothing was happening on the speedometer, and revs were high. Changed to auto-stick - it was in 2nd and wouldn't move up. Checked the odometer for kicks - it was the same mileage after I'd gone a couple of miles trying to get back home.

Thanks for the help! We did find where the sensor was located. Ended up taking it to the mechanic since we're not really equipped for the work and needed the car up and running quickly. Mechanic found that the output shaft speed sensor was totally dead, and the input shaft speed sensor was erratic. He replaced both, and the car was done in about 4 hours. Woohoo!

Speed sensor maybe. Check the connector on the speed sensor and make sure it is plugged in good. if the connection is good then the speed sensor is probably bad

the speed sensor is typically located on the transmission. On most Ford front wheel drive vehicles it is located on the passenger side of the transmission at the end where the CV axle goes into the transmission. It may be different on a chrysler

Ha a new speedo cable but the odometer doesn't work. Why?

Because of the plastic gear on the odometer shaft is some teeth . You'll have to replace the entire speedometer . Or take the vehicle to a shop that does those types of repairs. I went to the junkyard and bought the entire instrument cluster for under 50.00$ . Did it myself. Tedious job don't be in a rush could break something else. .

Suzuki Forenza error code P0782

Well code 782 is for a problem with the 2-3 shift solenoid or the circuit back to the engine computer. The solenoid is inside the transmission.
Code 722 was for a problem with the speed sensor. You could have a wiring harness problem.

Instruments don't work, key stuck in ignition, doesn't shift correctly

Sounds like you need a new car.
With joking aside, the problem with your speedo, tach, gas guage, temp gauge and odometer can probably be one of two things. Check your fuses. If they are fine you may need to replace your cluster panel. I had to have the entire thing changed over my speedo not working right. It was not cheap. You might want to check the relay box under the hood. Does your transmission leak? Check the fuses and relay on it also. Get a new ignition switch and replace the old one if your key is stuck. You can try WD40 on that key but don't expect any miracles. The bearings are likely shot. Sorry I posted all of this bad news. Good luck.

Car speedo & odometer sometimes work OK, other times not at all.

Most likely a speed sensor is going bad (most cars and truck do not use mechanical speedometer cables anymore) most sensors are located near the differential in rwd cars or near the drive shaft on the transmission. Best bet is to get a Haynes manual for your car to help locate the speed sensor. Remove it and take it to the auto parts store so you can visually compare it to the replacement. Install the new speed sensor and it should restore your speedometer and odometer.

Transmission not shifting when dash lights and spedio not working

I had a similar problem on a Ford Taraus. The car wouldn't shift when the speedo wasn't working. When the speedo decided to work then the transmission shifted fine. The problem and Fix it I found was because the Speed Odometer Sensor on the Transmission wasn't working so the computer was flying blind as to how fast the car was moving (not knowing when to shift) and therefore the computer placed the transmission into a "Safe Mode." When I realized what was happening I changed out the sensor and the car has never shifted so fine.

Good Luck!
