2002 Ford Tarus intermittant missing cyl #3 after tuneup

First forgive me if this question appears twice but I don't know that it made it through the first time so I'm trying again by signing in first.

I have a 2002 Ford Tarus 3.0 24V DOHC engine. I had a tune up not too long ago and at that tune up replaced the plugs with motorcraft plugs and also replaced the plug wires with new ones. Not long after the #3 cylinder showed as missing (after a local auto shop read the codes (no numerical code given though). I can only suppose that it's the coil pack or the fuel injector but I am leaning toward trying the coil pack next. Can anyone recommend any troubleshooting test that might show which is the source of the problem? Any substitution procedure that would help in troubleshooting the problem of the #3 missing cylinder? Also if the Coil pack is to be replaced should it also be motorcraft part or does that matter as far as the coil pack is concerned?

Last note ( info ). The missing doesn't always happen but it's intermittent. Sometimes worse than other times and more noticeable at idle or low speeds but sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

Just check the coil pack one at a time to know where if this is the issue.Injectors do tend to go. Unplug injector plugs one at a time and see if you can tell a difference.

I would remove one plug at a time, plug it back in wire and lay on top of engine block. Have some one crank and look for spark. Do this for each plug. If 1 is missing. You have bad wire. If two sparks are missing, then you have bad coil pack, if 3 is missing, you have two bad packs or bad module, if all cylinders are missing, then module or cranks sensor is faulty. Dont forge to change those plug wires just as often as plugs. They may look good still, but they get weak

2002 Ford Escape, the engine was cleaned and now showing a misfire on cyclinders 1,4&5? Swapped a coil and it made no difference? Run good when cold but starts missing when warmed up?

You don't clean todays engines, not with water anyway

I would say seeing as how you have been walking
coils, which is all you can do,without the proper
test equipment

You have 1 bad coil

You need to buy 1 new one and put it in a cyl
Drive at least 25 miles
If it still misses, put back the original one and
move the new one one cyl

They only misfire when really hot and will
set all kinds of codes
So on a Ford Product you disregard the codes
and keep switching the NEW Coil

Fuel pump in 2002 ford tarus how will i know its bad

if it does not have a hum when the ignition is turned on for 3 seconds it is possibly bad check fuses first.
if it is turning on the fuel pressure should be around 35- 40 Psi you will need a fuel pressure tester to test at the manifold.

No start

I'll give you a list of a few things that could be causing your problem. However, I think it's most likely a bad ignition module. I looked this up on the web and I see a lot of ignition module problems for the 2002 Escape. I checked the Ford recall list but there was no recall issued for what looks to be a very common problem with the ignition module.

Here are some other things that could be causing your problem.
1. Bad ignition coil
2. Clogged fuel filter
3. Clogged air filter
4. Clogged fuel injectors
5. Bad spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and /or rotor.
