Rear end rubbing


most probably a broken crown spring this is the part at the top. this can also cause damage to the shock if not fixed.

Check the ground. Or it's the alternator. Best thing to start out with a digital multimeter on the battery voltage while the car is running.

Rear suppenion low to the ground


There is an air compressor mountedmabove the rear suspension. The fuse for the air ride suspension is located behind the trunk rear trim panel. There is a level sensor on the rear control arm. If fuse is good, check for power at plug feeding compressor, compressor failure common. With suspesion at low position, sensor should send power to compressor. if no power suspect height sensor. Check relay for power and operation although failure rare.

Check engine light on, failed smog due to leak in tranny 98 sable


Your modulator valve on the outside rear of the tranny may be leaking tranny fluid into the vacuum line and it it is being burnt and exhausted by the engine. The valve has a thin diaphram within and over a period of time it can leak the fluid into the line. This must be replaced before it becomes a situation where the tranny will not shift out of low gear. Thank you, Dana

I need know what struts i can put in my 93 lincoln continental in place of the air ride


Hello; In regards to the Post, you can do a Strut Converstion and Retrofit, by using the Taurus/Sable struts. This convertion will work, but only for a limited time. The Coil Springs for the REAR, on a Taurus/Sable are much to "soft" for the large Lincoln Continental, it requires stiffer springs, or DO NOT CARRY much of a load in the rear trunk. I used a used pair of Rear struts from a 1994(r) and 1990(f) struts from a Taurus/Sable for the conversion. In all I spent, about $100. I did this conversion, to my 1992 Con in 2004, it lasted without any problems until June 2009, when one of my Rear struts collapsed, due to to much weight in my trunk. You can not carry much of a load, using the Retrofit struts, I gather. The bottom coil Seat of one of my struts has bent downwards, and is not rubbing against the inner well/bead of the tire. Not a nice thing, and very unsafe, and the car will eventually bottom-out due to the week spring arrangement. The car needs springs that are about 50% stronger. FYI. Other then that, it works OK.
The front struts retrofit, are better suited for this conversion, since both vehicles, use the same engine/tran arrangement, and the weight of the vehicle is not inquestion. Only the Rear, but I have not found, a low cost solution to this problem. The only other Alternative, is to buy the Monroe #90001 or Arnott conversion kit, their is also is Strutmasters.com

Service Ride Control light flashes constantly" Is this serious?


Robert,
When you come out in the morning is the vehicle sitting low to the ground especially on one corner or one end? Can you hear an air pump that seems to run for a long time? These are notorious for having the air suspension bags to start leaking. The only fix is to replace the bags. This is not a job for an amature. You can get be seriously hurt or killed if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Take it to a pro.

The rear suspension


you need rebuilt or new air struts.their easy to change but you should have a lift it makes it very easy.

This car is a column shifter I HAVE A 1997 MERCURY SABLE, ONE OF THE PROBLEMS IS THAT THE REAR TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD DON'T WORK, ONLY THE FRONT ONE ARE OK.FUSE IS OK,BULBS ARE OK, TURN SIGNAL FLASHER OK...


the turn signal problem sounds like the multifunction switch (the turn signal switch) is bad as far as the radio and windows it sounds like the trans range sensor is bad it is located on top of the trans at the shift linkage

If you have checked Power/Ground, and alls good look toward the Multi-Function Sw. (turn sig.sw) this is where everything get distributed at...as for your power loss when shifting, is it column/floor shifter ???? need to know....
