Question about 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan

1992 Dodge Grand Caravan engine failure

1992 Dodge Grand Caravan has a recent history of engine failure while driving. Lots of battery(starter turns really good). Replaced gas line filter/asd relay/ and finally the fuel pump! When the ignition key is turned on, the new fuel pump does not operate. I am thinking of jumpering(fused of course) from the battery to see if the new fuel pump will turn on. I have looked in the fuse panel under the dash and do not see a fuse marked "fuel pump". Is there a circuit panel? Should I set this van on fire, or put some holes in it with my shotgun? Rene

New fuel pump installed. Jumping turns it on, but no pressure building in injector manifold. How long does pump have to run before there is pressure? New filter put in, and fuel line blown with air from filter to injector manifold.

I am jumpering from the battery. Ground into black wire to fuel pump/ positive(fused) into green wire to pump. (don't know what blue wire to pump is) Inline fuel filter disconnected, and fuel line into a bucket under van.New fuel pump turns on, but no fuel comming out of fuel line. The old fuel pump jumpered in a bucket of water doesn't even turn on, so I believe it was good to replace the pump. Does this mean I installed a faulty NEW fuel pump???!

What happens when the fuel pressure regulator is malfunctioning? Is it like a thermostat? Does a fuel pressure regulator help in sucking fuel out of the tank? How is it tested? Thanks for your time, I appreciate it...Rene

Guess what was one of my problems. My fuel tank was half full of gas, and still jacked up in the rear. So fuel was not imerseing the fuel pump properly in gasoline. once I lowered the van rear, the pressure built in the fuel line. But still there is no pressure in the fuel rail. The pressure stops at the fuel regulator which is Before the injectors. How do I know this? I made the mistake of removing the fuel regulator, while the pump was still jumpered and running;POW! Face full of gas!(Wife mad) The fuel pressure reguator, I believe looks like a thermostat(on the rail) and has to be replaced. I think. Fuel will not go past it...

Went to a junkyard and got 4 fuel pressure regulators. Still no pressure in fuel rail. Could the problem be lack of suction to open the regulator? Gonna try to look for the voltage regulator.Don't know how to use a voltmeter, but i'm good with a shotgun. I might go back to that junkyard to find a voltage regulator.

There is not fuse for pump but a relay in the relay block. I do suggest jumping to see if pump turns on. Test voltage from ECM if needed. If voltage is to pump, then pump is shot. If not voltage, relay may be bad

You may have to try and start 5-10 times aka couple minutes. If pressure is still not building and pump is on, then you may want to consider testing the fuel pressure regulator.

voltage regulator will handle amount of fuel pressure being delivered to the system. You can test with voltmeter to see if you are getting any voltage to the regulator.

  1. Sounds like the battery may not have enough power in it to start it.
  2. Turn lights on and try starting, if lights go out durin the start the battery may be dead.

I have a 2004 Dodge Grand caravan that won't start. (60,000 miles) I hear a clicking noise and my gauges go "crazy" when I turn the key. (Speedometer goes from 0-120 and back to zero when I turn...

Sounds like a classic case of a dead battery. It takes much less energy to sweep the gauges and turn on the lights than it does to crank the engine over. The clicking noise is usually your starter solenoid trying to engage and spin the starter. Try a new battery. Happy motoring.

Good luck.

My 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan will not turn over. All I get is a "Click." The Alternator and starter were just checked out and they are fine. Is there some kind of electrical relay switch that could be bad?

Try taking both battery connections off and cleaning both battery posts with like a wire brush then take like a piece of 150 grit or so sand paper and put it in the end of each battery cable and sand them till they are fairly shiny then hook battery back up and try and start the van.
