What causes 2000 Lincoln contineal check transmission light to come on?

First of all check your Trans fluid level, some times the computer will say its at an ok level when its not. Then take it to 3 trans shops for an estimate, these shops are notorious for ripping you off. Good luck

I have a 2001 Holden rodeo 3.2L V6 auto have a problem between 40-60k's an hr it goes to change from 2nd to 3rd and seems to completely forget to go into 3rd and revs out and will not Go into gear unless I...

I can explain the sluggishness you get after the fault occurs and the light appears. The rodeo will go into what's called 'limp home mode' when it detects a fault. It is a safety feature that locks the car in second (or third) gear so u can get home or to the mechanic...slowly. If you turn the car off and re-start it will re-set. I recently was having transmission problems with my 2002 v6. It would occasionally clunk badly when pulling up to a slow stop. Intermittent problem that I couldn't reproduce with the mechanic (of course). They changed the transmission oil which was low and old, not a cheap job but probably a good idea. Unfortunately problem was still there. Plug in diagnostic module at transmission specialist showed no current faults when they first checked it, but a look through the fault history when I took it back and told them problem was still there showed a fault with the TPS or Throttle Position Sensor. Replaced that (not very expensive) and its been perfect ever since. May not be your problem, but get the transmission guy to check fault history, not just current faults. Don't know why my guy didn't do it the first time. Best of luck

When this light comes on, it'll either have to do with the coolant or the transmission. You said that your car picks up speed very slowly and will shut off on you as well. When this light comes on, it also means you're only running on two of your four cylinders. Your car is cycling this way in order to prevent further damage to your engine / transmission.

Check your coolant system for low coolant, or a potential leak. Transmission will be trickier to tackle.

Have you actually taken it to a Ford dealership as I think this light is only for their system to pick up, or just to local garages like Walmart and Autozone.

Hyundai Matrix Check Engine and ABS lights come on

Your ABS likely has a very dirty reluctor (can happen if the teeth get mud or brake dust in them) or possibly one of your speed sensors is starting to weaken and is close to failure. The proper diagnostic sequence is to have the trouble codes pulled from ABS and Engine modules and determine what the computers SAW when the lights were turned on. Most likely based on description, your ABS will have a speed sensor code, and your engine and/or trans module will have a transmission related trouble code. Very few transmission codes are things you can service at home, usually youll see solenoid or gear slippage codes...mostly those require internal repairs that often require removal of the valve body or rebuild of the transmission.
Make sure you check fluid level, that is the most common cause of transmission slippage codes, however if fluid is full, it indicates that unless the fluid has failed completely, you may need transmission repairs.

Without knowing what the code is its hard to tell was is wrong. I can tell you when a x-type has this transmission fault light on about 90% of the time this means the tranny is failing or already has failed.
I would start by just shut ing the car off and restarting it. If the light persists your most likely looking at some type transmission problem, and its most likely major.

Also pay attention to how the car is shifting if their is any abnormality with the shift, i would get it looked at right away. To be honest ive replaced alot of these automatic transmissions, they are not the most reliable.

Transmission problem, i think?

sounds like a sensor issue on your transmission. it is going into failsafe mode for some reason because the computer is not receiving an input that it should. there may be a loose wiring connection on the tranny. the first thing i would do is check for loose wires. after that you may need one of several sensors. if the car works fine when this message does not appear i would not think the transmission itself is bad.
