Turn it in to your insurance, you are most likely going to need an entire new steering column to fix this.

91 dodge dynasty some one tried to steal it they broke the ingnishen my question can I change out the ingnition we out removing the air bag &steering wheel? I have access to all screws & pin locks signed...

yes you can, 1991 Dodge Dynasty Ignition Switch

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Tamper-proof Torx driver
  • Ignition key
Instructions
    • 1 Remove the plastic cover from the steering column. The cover is two pieces held together by screws that thread through the bottom piece of plastic into the top piece. Remove the screws and pull the cover off. This exposes the large square ignition switch. The key cylinder connects to the ignition switch.
    • 2 Remove the tamper-proof Torx screws that secure the ignition to the steering column using a tamper-proof Torx driver. You can get this type of Torx driver from your local auto part store.
    • 3 Pull the wiring harness out of the ignition switch.
    • 4 Place the ignition key into the cylinder and turn it onto the auxiliary position. Push the metal pin on the ignition switch in using a screwdriver and slide the ignition cylinder half way out of the ignition switch. Turn the key to the off position and slide the cylinder all the way out of the ignition switch.
    • 5 Place the key into the new cylinder, slide the cylinder into the ignition switch half way. Turn the key to the auxiliary position and slide the cylinder in the rest of the way. Remove the key from the cylinder.
    • 6 Press the wiring harness onto the ignition switch.
    • 7 Secure the switch to the steering column using the tamper-proof Torx driver.
    • 8 Place the covers back onto the steering column and secure them using the screwdriver.

I cant put the car in any gears the leaver just goes up and down

Your gear selector cable is broken somewhere between the the selector itself to the transmission..it's not hard to check, just have somebody pull up and down on the gear selector and you lay under the driver door looking under to see where the cable is wobbling

Someone busted out the ignition cylinoid and tried

pull the plastic shroud off from around the steering column it is held in place with phillip head screws once the cover is off you will be able to see the lock cylinder at the base of the cylinder is a c-clip which needs to be pulled up and off if there is no clip at the base of the switch there will be a metal stud insde a little hole take something small enough to push throuhg the small hole this will release the stud once the stud is loosed you will have to pull outwrd on the switch until it slides out of the column. reverse the process to install. wish you best.

Ignition switch repair

whats left of the key cylinder? Is it still in place? if it is or isn't... if you can turn it with a flat head screw driver to the "start" position then your in good shape. Chances are you have a transponder chip (a theft deterrent, probably why they weren't able to steal your car) built into you key... try to crank it with the screwdriver and place (the top of) your key near the cylinder so it can pick up the signal. as for replacing the cylinder... that's a bit more tricky, i would bring it to a dealership and try to get your insurance to cover it....
