Check the Transmission Dipstick OIL level to ensure the level is up to the FULL mark. A low oil level will be insufficient to keep the drive engaged as the system gets hot, and will eventually damage the internal gearing, and also the seals.

The transmission solenoids are not working properly. Probably requires a transmission rebuild.
I don't think it's in the ground strap or wiring.
It's an internal problem with the transmission.

Clutch or Transmission?

Whining noise is worn gears or low on transmission fluid. It after reading your post, sorry to say but you were low on transmission fluid and your transmission needs to be replaced. You gear box has seized and every time you release the clutch even in neutral will kill your engine. The transmission shaft may have seized on the bearings in the transmission case, regardless you need a new or rebuilt transmission. Good luck friend and sorry for the bad news. Keep me posted.

Transmission problem

First of all you need to check if there is any oil in the transmission, this can be done by allowing the engine to get to operating temperture ( ideally you want the transmission hot but as it doesnt drive this will might not be possible) then check the transmission oil level by using the dipstick in the engine. The oil should be a red coloured oil. If low topped up with mopar (Jeeps own brand) of ATF+4 transmission oil.

Let me know how you get on
