Question about 2003 Nissan Murano

2 Answers

My Nissan Murano started to screech upon accelerating from a stop at an intersection. The grinding screech lasted for about 10 seconds, but then loud clunking started and driving was affected with jerks and continuous loud clunking and rattling. Had it towed to the Nissan service dept and the technician found no differential oil in the transfer case. He found no evidence of leaks. Anybody have any ideas how this could happen? The differential oil was replaced by the Nissan service dept 20K miles ago, the last time anyone worked on the car was 2 1/2 months ago when I had my oil changed at Goodyear.

if it is sort of a loud metallic like screeching sound as you crank, it is typically a sign that your starter motor is about to go.

transmission issue or possible even transfer case? i had low transfer case fluid and that happened and there was metal screeching sound. my car hesitated then grinded down to stop. had to put more oil in the T-case. but then yours might just be transmission issues possibly?

Loud screeching noise coming from car after stops.

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.

98 gs300 loud screeching noise that last for about 5-10 seconds

The only four rotating items under the hood are
engine
power steering pump
A/C compressor
and smog emission pump.
==== I would check the fluid level on the power steering first. Check for pink fluid leak on the ground,
==== Check the A/C system with the wheel turn to one side and APPLY ALL LOADS.
Example: high beam on,A/C max, radio on and deforster on.
This will give you system a stress test.
All eyes on the pully and locate to part that generate the loud screeching noise.
My bet is on the power steering pump.

Please post more info on the comment window.
I will follow up on it.

TRANSMISSION NOISE

I bought a 05 Murano SL and two months later I heard a very slight clicking noise upon acceleration. I took it in to Nissa twice, they couldn't hear it. Well another two months later the transmission started making a loud clicking noise and turns out they had to replace the entire transmission (under manufactures warranty) - that tranny was on backorder so I drove a rental for 3 weeks til they got it in and replaced it. So since they were on backorder, i'm assuming there were many of these with tranny problems.
