Question about 2004 Volvo XC90
Ok, this just happened in our 2000 V70. The key would turn to position 1, the srs light pops on, but the key refuses to turn to start the car and the shifter is stuck in park. I pulled the oil dipstick out, lightly coated the key on ALL sides, inserted it back into the ignition and turned it a little forcibly. It turned so I cycled it back and forth a few times and it was good to go. We were stuck so this was a last ditch attempt to get going....I would suggest using clean, 3 in 1 oil to lubricate the ignition.

You ever get a solution to this? I ran into the same problem on my XC90 this afternoon. Thanks

My 2009 XC90 with 47000 miles just had this problem today. I moved it out of the garage and park it outside with no issues. Ten minutes later when I got in to go to work the key didn't go pass position I. This vehicle is well taken care off and I don't think this should be happening this soon. I have a 98 Honda Accord that I've owned for the last 13 years and I've yet to have any issues with it. Besides giving the dealer $500-$700, any other advise?

Take it to the shop and have it replaced
