Ok, this just happened in our 2000 V70. The key would turn to position 1, the srs light pops on, but the key refuses to turn to start the car and the shifter is stuck in park. I pulled the oil dipstick out, lightly coated the key on ALL sides, inserted it back into the ignition and turned it a little forcibly. It turned so I cycled it back and forth a few times and it was good to go. We were stuck so this was a last ditch attempt to get going....I would suggest using clean, 3 in 1 oil to lubricate the ignition.

My 2009 XC90 with 47000 miles just had this problem today. I moved it out of the garage and park it outside with no issues. Ten minutes later when I got in to go to work the key didn't go pass position I. This vehicle is well taken care off and I don't think this should be happening this soon. I have a 98 Honda Accord that I've owned for the last 13 years and I've yet to have any issues with it. Besides giving the dealer $500-$700, any other advise?

I fixed the problem by adding a little bit of graphite lube and using a set of pliers to carefully force the key. Just insert the key into the ignition switch, grab the key(metal) right between the key fob and the ignition and carefully force it to turn. I did it on my vehicle and has never got stuck again. This time the stealership didn't make a penny!

My xc90 just did the same thing today. How hard did you have to turn the key? I'm afraid of breaking it inside the ignition.

L Smith, when my XC90 got stuck and after I put the graphite powder lube into the ignition I just forced the key a bit. It didn't require that much force. I'm not saying that yours is going to be the same, but if your key is like mine, it will require significant force to break. Do it in a forward and back mention. I think I went f and b twice or three time before it disengaged. Be sure you grab the key itself with the pliers, not the fob. I hope you get it loose. Good luck

Hi, I have a Volvo XC90 D5 2007 with a dieselheater that won't start. What could be the reason for this. When I want to start it it says "on" for 2 seconds and then goes back to off.

one or more of your heater plugs are faulty
solution get heater plugs checked or renewed
even when your heater light goes out your plugs are still heating .so wait after the light goes out 20 seconds and see will your car start ,goodluck

I had the same problem on my 04 XC90 - apparently it is a common failure... You need to replace a Siren module.

Turn key to start the vehicle and nothing. I hit the starter while turning the key and the truck started. Took the starter out and had it looked at and the tech said the starter was fine.put it back in and...

two things, the starter may not be grounding on the block or it has develloped a dead spot, # 1 is easy, clean all contact points, #2 requires replacement or rebuilding

Light in xc90 radio is out. Can I fix this myself?

I had the same problem. LCD on Stereo can't be fixed and Volvo said it would be $1000 for a new unit.
Bought an aftermarket Alpine BT103 (includes bluetooth) for $219 on Crutchfield.com. They included a face plate free!
Install (including Ipod cable) was another $150.
You may get an airbag service light after the install.
Take it to the Volvo dealer and have it reset.
