I have a 1999 F250 7.3 Diesel engine and it will not start. All you hear is a clicking noise. That's it. I've replaced both batteries and had the starter checked out which shows it does work. Does anyone know what the problem could be? You can email me at [email protected], if preferred.

sounds like a relay or something clicking. that's all, the starter does not engage because i think whatever is causing the problem is preventing the starter from engaging.

Sounds like a solenoid possibly clicking. The starter doesn't even engage, but it did check good on a bench when I took it in to be checked.

It wound up being the starter after all, even though I had it benched checked last week. I replaced the starter and she's running like she use to.

Might want to check the Starter Cellenoid or starter relay located on inner fender on passenger side. You can try and jump the two big terminals with a screw driver. Make sure key is on (on position) and vehicle in Park if automatic and Nuetral if manual.....

Starter on diesel engine won't turn. I get a clicking sound when I turn the key

First check the battery is fully charged. Diesel engines take a lot of effort to crank over so need a full battery charge to start correctly.
Has the vehicle been difficult to start recently? A clicking noise usually means the starter motor has failed. Power is getting to it but it is refusing to turn. You will most likely need to replace it with a new one.

Won't start but can hear starter make a click noise when trying to start with key

will it start with a jump ? if it does replace the battery and have the charging system tested, if it will not start with a jump then most likely you will need to replace the starter.

1999 Toyota corollary will not start when it Is cold.

When you say it wont start does it just make a clicking noise or is the engine spinning over good and not starting?. if it doesnt spin over good then i would have the battery tested and if thats good then the starter may be bad. when the starter goes bad you will hear a click or no noise and the same for a bad battery, if the engine is spinning over but not catching then it may be fuel or spark related.

I have a 1999 vw beetle diesel that the starter does not engage when I try to start. I have a new battery that seems to be fully charged but the lights dim when in start mode but there is no noise.

Then remove the electrical starter motor out from the engine, and repair it by replacing the engaging coil & electrical brushes (if necessary).

Own a 1999 jeep cherokee sport has a problem when attempting to start while turning the key forward i am hearing a clicking noise from the passenger side fuse panel but the starter and engine do not turn...

The clicking noise you hear is likely the starter relay. (should be identified inside the box cover) You need to check that battery is up to full voltage, terminal connections are clean and secure and that there is 12 volts at the main power lead on the starter and power at the small trigger wire connection at the starter when the key is turned to the start position. If you have that, then very likely the starter needs to be replaced. If not you will need to check wiring and neutral safety switch as well as main fuses in the power distribution center (the box where the clicking relay is, near the battery)

Starting problems

You will need to replace all the glowpulgs! One bad one takes the rest out! Great engine otherwise! Frankster016
