I had the same noise on my Chevy Suburban 2008 LTZ. I found the problem. You guys must change your fluid in the front / rear differential and transfer case at least every 30,000 miles. I changed today on my car at Valvoline station. The noise is gone. Do not go to the dealer. They like to fix problems and to prevent them.

Probably your exhaust or heatshield scratching or vibrating. I would use self tapping screws to secure it tighter

SOURCE: My 2000 Lincoln Ls makes grinding noise underneath

There are several things that can do that. Have someone check the Emergency brake system behind the rear rotors. They are often missed by repairmen and when they fall apart inside the drum part of the rotor they will jam and grind. Also service regular brakes.

Your universal joints could be dry and failing. You could have a loose heat deflector or rear stabilizer bar dragging. Your exhaust system could be dragging.

There is a grinding and clunking noise coming from my left front tire on my 850 volvo (96). I replaced the hub bearing and the brakes and rotores are new too.

Really need more info to help you locate and correct this problem, when does grinding occur? Just when applying brakes? at a certain speed without breaking? Same for Clunking Noise. If I had to go off the info I have I would remove wheel and check to make sure pads are still positioned correctly and check to make sure the caliper bolts and caliper bracket bolts are tight

Why is there a clunking noise only when turning hard left, e.g., when parking or making a U-turn?

sounds like your cv joint needs replacing on that single side if you are hearing a grinding# How are your anti roll bar bushes and drop links? It may be a combination of things rather than just the one. Clunking and grinding do not necessarily go together but might be a symptom of a single issue.
Maybe Fixya should set up a sound file facility so that we can listen to such sounds too!!

Symptoms of a bad cv joint

x10 , lug bolts,
or even cracked rims
or even bad wheel bearings
or even brake rotor bad. warped.
doing a hands on full inspection (man handling parts)
is the only way, guessing on the net is zero solution.
I can list maybe 25 ways to make noise. on car.
why do that.?

Grind sound while turning

Hi

Is it a clunk clunk clunk noise? Then you have a CV joint that needs to be replaced. This is called the CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT, and helps you turn the wheel when it is in motion.

It has ball bearings inside and when the housing wears out, they make that clunking noise.

See your mechanic for a change and see if you can replace both wheels at the same time.

Most definately some bushing. Just check all of them, make sure all the bolts are tight. Jack the car up and get underneath it and start wiggling the suspension. Grab the wheel and shake it. Try to find the corner or side of the vehicle that the sound comes from.
