There could be many reasons for this but when the rpm needle went down, did the car died out? if is just doing that you may have problems with an electical conection, fuel pump or relays, have the car check for this systems.
have you had any work done on it recently?

Have you had the charging system tested, it may be low voltage that is causing this or a defective battery connection due to corrosion or a loose cable or both.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

1989 honda accord lxi fi oil light

Sounds like there is an oil pressure problem. Now this can be due to several factors. 1. low oil level in car
2. bad oil pump
3.bad oil pressure switch /sending unit
4. last but not least check oil filter and make sure its not clogged.
worn engine main/connecting rod bearings.
have pressure checked with a manual guage at oil pressure switch for the correct pressure. If that's good then the switch is bad and problem solved.
if it low then you will have to check pump and bearings. Contact if you need more help and thanks for using FIX YA

Check oil and check gauges light on

HEY,
YOU SEEM TO BE ON THE RIGHT TRACK. I WOULD START WITH THE SENDING UNITS. GM LOVES TO PUT TWO OF THE ON A CAR. ONE FOR THE GUAGE AND ONE FOR THE DASH LIGHT. UNLESS YOU HAVE NOTICED ANY BIG CHANGES IN OIL PRESSURE I WOULD THINK IT IS THE SENDER(SWITCH) FOR THE LIGHT. THEY ARE NORMALLY LOCATED AROUND THE AREA OF THE OIL FILTER HOUSING.
