Sounds like idle air control clean the throttle body & try again, might have to do a few times as the npintle inside the iac might be stripped.

good luck

I HAVE A 2002 TAHOE AND THE MOTOR SURGES WHEN I START IT UP. IT DOES IT BAD WHEN THE AIR IS COLD.

hello thanks for choosing fixya.

one of the most common problems on cold start ups in colder weather is the intake gaskets leaking causing the engine to get extra air this will cause a rough running for a minute or two and once starts to warm up it smooths out. this sounds like what you are experiencing. I would have that checked. might also wanna try to clean the throttle plate this gets debris on it and will reduce the airflow rate and cause low idle and the computer tries to compensate for it and can cause a surge at idle but this is usually all the time.

My Tahoe will start and idle poorly for a few seconds and then die. If I hold the accelerator down, it will do fine for a few minutes. Changed the fuel filter and no luck. Bad gas?? Fuel pump going out??...

Hello. As you indicate, you most likely have a fuel problem. Begin by going to an auto parts store and getting two cans of a fuel additive called seafoam. If the problem is the carburator or the fuel this will solve your problem. Then ask if the auto parts store can put your tahoe on a scanner to see what error codes pop up. If they can't do a scan ask them to recommend a parts store than can. Regards, Joe

has anyone checked for a vacum leak? a vacum leak will cause rough idle at idle. check the lines from the pcv valve.

Whenever my tahoe is idling or im going less than 15 mph it keeps trying to die

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
