BMW 530i microfilter housing question

I just followed the instructions previously mentioned here on how to change the microfilter on my 2005 BMW 530i. However, looking at the engine from the front, the microfilter housing on the left side has some kind of sensor attached to it. And not only are there long bar clips you can undo on the housig lid but there is also a nut/screw that needs to be undone in order to open the housing. So, if anyone knows anything about the sensor and/or screws and how to deal with them, that would be a big help. Dealer just quoted $179.00 to change them - ouch!

PS - anyone know how much the replacement filters are?

Hard to say because that is the service reminder wording from the I drive system. I think it means pollen (or cabin)filter not the air filter for the engine. Sorry I can't be more specific. Thanks for your earlier reply!

pollen filter ,thought so ,well anyway follow your nose with this one because i havent changed one that i can remember ,what i do with them is blow out with air line then wash them under tap with paint brush and washing up liquid .blow dry a bit then refit. These filters are so expensive for some obscure reason and the cheapest filter costing from 30E upwards

Microfilter

The microfilter is an electrostatically charged filter that captures dust and pollen particles (down to 5 microns) that normally are drawn into the passenger compartment through the ventilation system. It is similar to the filter that you have in your home AC unit. Just like your house filter your BMW's microfilter should be changed also. The recommended interval is at every inspection #1 and #2. However, if your AC smells musty or you have decreased blower fan volume change it sooner.

2002 530i "OIL" microfilter - DOES THIS PART EXIST?

THe microfilter is just the filter. The oil filter is available off the shelf at advance auto parts. It's the original equipment German brand, "Mann". It's about $12.00. The price of $300 you were quoted is more the range for a transmission oil change, not engine oil.

Don't be confused about the word"microfilter". Again, it just means the filter, same as any other car.

I have a bad battery in my 2005 BMW 530i. I can't

It is located on the right side of your trunk. First lift off the trunk lining then pull out the side lining to reveal the battery among a bunch of wires. Be sure to reconnect the vent (on the front side of the battery-it is housed in a small gray tube connected to a black elbow) this will prevent gas from the battery building up in the trunk.

Changing Microfilter for 2004 BMW 530i

hi, if you open the hood you will see 2 black microfilter housings on the left and right of the engine neer the windshield, on these you will have a bar clip, unclip these and the housing lid will be able to be removed, you then just lift out the microfilters and replace them, installing is the reverse of fitting, job done. hope this helps, regards mark.
