Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Noise coming from a/c pump

There is a loud grinding noise coming from the pulley on my air conditioner. the pulley moves fine, and the a/c works, but when the a/c is not on the wheel on the outside of the pulley moves very slowly and makes noise. when i turn it on the noise stops. is it possible to tighten the wheel that moves slowly so that it stops making the noise, or does it require full replacement?

Sounds like the power steering pump has failed.
You could take the serpentine belt off and check the pump pulley.

Spinning noise

I always try to help on the first reading of a problem, but we need to know if the car is moving or Parked or in gear. Make, Model, Year of car.

If moving, it could be brakes dragging, transmission problems, bearings. If Parked, power steering pump, water pump, Alternator, A/C compressor pulley or unit. Some apply to moving car too!

Sometimes idler pulleys on the belt, dirty belts wiil make spinning noise, but not grind.

The smog pump has plumbing coming off of it which some is made of metal. The acids in the smog that is release through it eats away the metal in time causing leaks that will cause this noise

2000 Chevy Cavalier making a noise when air is shut off

This problem sounds like the aircompressor pully, the bearing is shot.
With the engine running and the air conditioner off there is a grinding noise, look at the compressor pully, does it wobble? Then turn on the air conditioner and the noise stops, look at the compressor pully again, the wobble stops? If so that's the problem.

My 2006 ford taurus has a loud grinding noise coming from one of my pulley's. I have the squeakey sound too, that I think is coming from the tensionor pully that is common with ford's. The grinding sound...

The tension pulley on the Ford products is famous for wearing out. If you are positive about where the noise is coming from, then the only real solution is to purchase a new pulley from the dealership. Installation involves removing tension from the serpentine belt, unbolting the old pulley and installing the new one. Put the serpentine belt back in place and you are done. I have tried in the past to lubricate those pulleys both on and off the car - it never worked for any length of time. Seems like once the bearing is worn to the point of making noise there is no saving it. Let me know if this helps you out or not.

1998 ford taurus power steering makes loud whining noise soon as you turn on car, has enough fluid

it may not be the pump its self it could be just the belt or the pulley, if it is whining. if its grinding then that would be more that the pump is faulty of it may have air in the system.

Another guess would be the water pump going bad. That noise can be loud when it gets pretty bad and makes like a metal on metal grinding noise

Air conditioner belt is about to break, DOES THE VEHICLE HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH THAT MAY BE FROZEN

If your clutch was frozen the belt would be making a loud squalling noise, the belt would burn up shortly. Start your engine, turn on air conditioning, then open the hood, and do an eyeball inspection of the belt, see if it is moving around the pulleys. If it is you only have a worn belt.
