Question about 1995 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

My car idles at 2k rpm as soon as the check engine light goes off

Sometimes my 95 VW Golf GTI starts just fine. It idles and 1000rpm and drives great but the check engine light is on. As soon as the light turns off my car begins to idle at 2000rpm. If I turn it off and try turning it back on, it will turn on as I rev up the engine but suddenly just sputters out and dies. If I wait for a few hours and try again it works just fine for awhile.

Most likely airflow meter giving trouble. Remove it and try cleaning it you will get spray for this in an auto factor's or an electrical repair shop. Cleaning may not fix it as it may just be worn out and will need to be replaced. A genuine V.W. one is expencive but enquire at your auto factors they will be able to get you one at about half the price. Hope this helps. Cheers

Why would a 00 VW GTI not idle?

If the battery was disconnected during oil pan replacement then a idle relearn will be needed. drive car for awhile without using accessories (a/c) then return to idle shut car off 10 min then try again. If motor was lifted to remove oil pan check for broken vacuum hoses a large leak can keep engine from idling.

if the car is stock i would replace your oxygen sensor. you may also need to clean out the MAF sensor.

To low idle

since you said that the speed of the engine not goes beyond 950 rpm , the problem lies with the engine.get an authorized service personnel to open up and check up your engine for any wear and tear on piston rings or the crank shaft couplings with that of piston.and also change the engine oil ..hope your problem will be tackled.

1991 vw golf gti- RPM stop working!

judging by the amount of km it has done i would say the rpm drive is faulty, this measures the amount of rotation in the camshaft and shows the "revolutions per minute". when this goes faulty it stops the read out on the dial, so you want to be looking for a device that measures the speed that the engine is turning, if you have, replace it and it should solve the problem
