Sounds like a humming or a rubbing sound when I drive? what may be the cause for this issue?

humming sound could be a tire, has somthing it it or its loose. brake pads catching or shield catching on the disc. really depends on were the sound is coming from can also be a loos air pipe on the intake but this would change with revs. if its does it all time when turning then it would be the tire as other parts move when changing from straight line.

How to remove tire from under the van

There is a compartment inside the rear hatch (sometimes on the driver's side and sometimes on the Passenger side) that you can open and your tire changing equipment and instructions will be in there. (unless someone removed it) The jack handle must be used to "crank" the winch to let down the cable that holds the spare tire in place.

I feel and hear a knocking in my steering wheel when turning or going over bumps

It sounds like you have either a loose ball joint or something loose in your steering. watch the steering while someone turns in back and forth. Look for any play. The idler arm is the notorious part on GM trucks. If you have to replace any steering part other than the idler arm or the pitman arm, you will have to have the front end aligned. If the steering all looks good, jack it up one side at a time with the jack under the lower control arm and try to rock the tire with your hands at 12 and 6 o'clock. Next, use a prybar to try to "lift" the tire. This checks the ball joints. If there is any play rocking it, they are bad. If there is more than a little (1/4" or less) play with the prybar, they are bad. Of course, use caution jacking and be sure to place a jackstand so it will catch the truck if it should slip off of the jack or the jack fail. Good luck.

Can not lower spare tire

intl190 is the man! This solution solved my problem. I followed his instructions and used a super long screwdriver to push the j-hook in. My latch on a 2003 Tahoe works fine now after a thorough cleaning. I agree that regular cleaning will keep it functional. Thanks again, intl190...you save me at least a couple hundred dollars that the tire store wanted to replace the latch, etc (which is a special order item).

F150 2003 5.4L Vibration throughout truck with acceleration

Have your tires and wheels checked. Sometimes they throw a weight and then you get a vibration. Other times you can have a bad tire and catch it before it blows.

Where is the spare tire located in a 2000 Dodge Caravan

The Spare tire is under the Van between the Rear bumper and axle.
Check in the cargo area. There is a nut that lowers the spare tire on a cable hidden under a flap in the carpet.
If the tire does not come down all the way then the safety catch is stuck. The tire will come down a few inches and hang by the plastic t-bone holder. You'll need to get underneath the car and either reach over the tire or up in the center hole to release it. It is thinner than the main cable and hard to get at, but with some effort and good hard tug it will release.
It's a horrible design flaw.
After you finally get the spare tire off, you should either lubricate the release catch liberally or disable it completely so you're not stuck again.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Spare tire

I had the same problem with my 99 Grand Caravan SE and found this solution on a different site. It worked immediately. I used my hip to take the weight off the tire by laying under it sideways (because I don't have a third hand or a helper). Below is a cut/paste from the other site. Good luck!

There is a safety catch on the plastic wench bracket for the dog bone.
Here is how to fix it:
The tire will lower about 2 inches then stop. Lower the cable another couple of inches. Lie on your back under the tire and lift weight off the cable. With your third hand (get a helper - I used one hand to lift the tire) reach up and over the tire to the wench down tube. You will feel a wire connected to a square piece of metal. Pull on that metal piece, it should pop back for you releasing the tire.(You may have to pull up-and-out if it has a little rust on it.)
While you have the tire down, clean up the mechanism and apply some grease.

PS Make sure the spare has 60lbs of air before using it.
