The car is a 1999 lincoln continental. We will try the vacuum line check and go from there.

    Thank you,

We checked the servo and it is all electric - no vacuum lines. We also looked in a repair manual for a 1998 lincoln mark viii and the servo and other components look the same but are in different positions on the car. There was a procedure for self test involving turning the ignition on while holding the cruise control off button and then watching a cruise contol light. The 99 continental does not appear to have a light but I suspect the information display may be involved. If we could get into the self test mode it appears to be a simple procedure to verify which component is at fault. Any ideas or info about how to get to the self test mode?

    Thanks,

Without knowing what year the car is -

The problem could be a vacuum line.. Check all vacuum hoses that run from the intake and the cruise control - control unit..
It could also be a problem with the diafrm in the cruise control - control unit.. It might be bad - or just sticking..

Good luck..

What causes my cruise controll to not work intermittenly

cruise control starts working above 50kmh, so if your under that it wont work. the cruise servo may be at fault, or I have seen battery acid leak down on the vacuum lines causing cruise not to work correctly. cruise control works off of a vacuum so without it, it wont work. if the cruise light doesn't turn on when pressing the set/cruise button intermitantly it may be the switch itself that is starting to fail

Cruise control not working

can be caused by many reasons.
blown fuse.
ECU in limphome , which may kill cruise, featurer.
bad acuators, and valves.
bad VSS sensor, (it cant see speed)
brake input to control stuck on, canceling Cruise full time.

all this and more is in the fsm, get one and read it, lots of test.
or login to alldata.com and read.

2001 Lincoln LS, 5 speed manual, cruise control buttons are mixed up. + does resume, - sets or increases speed, cancel sets or reduces speed and won't cancel. Is this computer related? Had an issue...

Sounds like your clock spring may be going bad. The blinking cruise control symbol is a warning that you are traveling at a high speed. That is nothing to really worry about.

Cruise control how to use

Most cruise controls are designed to disengage when you press the brake pedal. I always mention this first because people tend to try to press the clutch pedal while the cruise control is engaged and this startles them when the engine revs up all the way...

Anyway, to use your cruise control:

1) Press the Cruise control button to on.
2) Drive up to the speed you need to go.
3) Press the "Set/Coast" button.
4) let go of the accelerator pedal

If the cruise control system is operating correctly, your vehicle will continue to travel at the same speed until you either press the brake pedal or you cancel the cruise setting with the cancel button of the cruise control.

Remember: Your civic is not equiped with a radar system for your cruise control, so if you are aproaching an intersection or traffic in front of you, do not expect the car to know it needs to stop. Also, cruise control only operates the accelerator pedal i your car, it is not autopilot, so it will not steer your car for you.

(you think it sounds silly that I am writing this? You should see my friend's car... He thought Cruise control was like autopilot, so he smashed his brand new civic into a tree...)

Happy Motoring!

Cruise Control, intermitent wipers acting up.

More then likely, the switch arm will have to be replaced, everything that contyrols your wipers and cruise are built into that left arm.

I hope this helps you.

Cruise control stopped working in my 2004 Hyundai Sonata

This works...the cruise is directly tied to the brake lights...when I replaced the brake and side light bulbs on my 2004 Santa Fe,,,the cruise started working with no other adjustments. It must complete a circuit or something.
