Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
This problem is caused by a defective fuel gauge sending unit, the sending unit is inside the gas tank, you must drop the fuel tank out of the car to replace the sender, it is part of the fuel pump module.

It's more than likely a gauge issue, this is a pretty common problem for Trailblazers to have. Here's a link with more information about these GM gauge problems. And where you can purchase replacement parts on Amazon if you want to do the repair yourself.
