1999 Jeep Wrangler growls while turning

I replaced the power steering pump and the noise went away for 1 day. The fluid is full and clean, but the pump I put on was a reman. I think I should replace the pump again, but I was curious if there is something else going on. The fact that it quieted it makes me think it has to be the pump.

May be the pump, but maybe what caused the old pump to growel is doing the same to this one. to be sure all is well in front steering, lift front of truck so both wheels are of the ground, you should be able to turn wheels left and right all the way by manually pulling the wheels by hand. if turns smoothly, probably the pump, if not, some mechanical problem

Try turning the wheel fron side to side while the car is off and remove the top from the reservoir, this will remove any trace of air in the system, but if you still have yhe problem then the pump is defctive, its not uncomon for a remnufactured pump to go bad after a few days or hours.

check the condition of the pump drive belt as the cold weather makes it more difficult to flex and if it is worn or loose it may be your problem

My '06 Honda Odyssey has gotten noisy recently.

If it is filled up to the "full hot" mark then you are okay, fluid wise. It almost sounds like once it gets warmed up, it starts running better. The "growling" noise (especially when turning) could be from it not getting enough fluid. Other than that, your power steering pump maybe on its last legs, and it is taking time to warm up before it starts pumping fluid correctly. Just make sure that you power steering resevoir is completely filled to the proper mark.

No power steering

fill it with fluid and look for the leak the system is under the most pressure when the front wheels are all the way to one side or the other..(all the way left or all the way right) if a helper can turn the wheel, you can inspect for the leak to determine where its at..if a hose is craked open, you can cut it and install a ferrule and clamps on it,,if its the pump, it needs replaced..and if the pump growls already due to low fluids it will need replaced very soon anyway..good luck it can be driven carefully but I dont sugest it..

Today I started my car and my power steering pump was screaming. Warmed up and is fine. First time its done that. I dunno if temperature is to blame (20 degrees in Cleveland, Oh)? I changed changed some...

If the fluid is full than the sound is normal for GM when it is cold. You can try flushing the power steering system and adding an ounce of "Seafoam Motor Tune" to the power steering system after the flush is complete.

This may help with the noise.

Replacing the pump in an attempt to resolve the noise may make the condition worse. Aftermarket pumps are notorious for making more noise than the original pump. A new O.E. pump may be fine until it gets cold and then it may make the same noise.

Jeep 1999 wrangler Power steering pump failure

not normally
there may be metal flakes in the filter in the reservoir so replacing it would be a good idea
don't bother repairing the pump, it will be more cost effective to get a new one
if short of cash , get a good unit from the wreckers/ junk yard

I have a 1993 F-250 4x4 speedo stopped working and power steering is making noise (fluid level is good)

Hi I just thought you might like to know that the VSS sensor(vehical speed sensor) on a 93 f250 is actually on the top center of the rear differential. It is basically a proximity type sensor not the old school gear and cable. It will take a 1/2" or 13mm wrench I believe to remove the single bolt holding it in and the it pulls out. I think they are around 25 bucks so it's cheap enough to fix the speed sensor.

Power steering hose was leaking on my 1999 Kia Sephia and I had the hose replaced, now every time I turn the steering wheel past a 90 degree turn it whines like there is no power steering fluid. it almost...

The first thing I would do is check the power steering fluid and make sure it is full. If the power steering fluid was low after they replaced the line, it is possible that there is air in the system in the form of tiny air bubbles. This will take some time to go away as the air bubbles migrate to the top. If the fluid level is okay and the noise does not go away in a few days, take it back to who replaced the line and have them re-check everything to make sure the line does not have a pinch in it.

My power steering pump makes a growling noise even when the car is idle. The noise is louder when I turn the steering wheel. The power steering fluid has gotten low a couple of times and gets foamy.

if gets low definitely a leak foam is pump mixing fluid with air roar is pump cavitation check lines or pump for leak keep fluid at recommended level air bound unit can cause steering difficulty and or failure if need have trained mech look into problem

My 1999 dodge Intrepid makes a loud whining noise (like a power steering pump) any time it is running... Any ideas on what it could be?

if the winning noise gets louder when you turn the steering wheel, it is the power steering pump.
99 to 04 intrepids have a serpintine belt with a self tightner.what i did with mine is **** the old power steering fluid out with a shop vac.replaced half with new fluid and top up with a transmission/power steering fluid additive.the noise went away after a couple of days.

Jeep Wrangler 1997: Broken power steering pump

I don't know what the date was when you inquired. But, if you drive it will be o.k. as long as there was no fluid loss. You will just have to overcome the stiff steering. If you lost all of your fluid you will seize the pump and then it will throw the belt and you will be walking because your water pump will cease to turn and the engine will over heat.
