Yes, it is tranny fluid. common place to leak is cover, lines or bearing seals. a drip here and there is no big deal, but its a sign that something will need to be replaced soon. if its almost time for a fluid change, good to go now as they will point out where the leak is comming from, may be the pan gasket which is replaced during fluid change anyway

I have a 92 GMC , 350 engine. I have no reverse and no overdrive. Any suggestions ?

I'm suspecting a 350 turbo hydramatic tranny. Pull the tranny stick inspect the fluid color and level. If fluid is brown/black and smells burned, the tranny needs an overhaul. If fluid level ok and color reddish, I would suspect a clutch issue and the tranny will require further diagnostics/repair

I just changed my honda element 2005 transmission fluid 2wks ago.I woke up this morning, start the car and put the gear stick to drive but the car will not move. What could be the problem? It is an...

You may need to find out if the transmission has a leak or is a cvt type of transmission. If the vehicle has a cvt transmission and the incorrect fluid type was used can cause major problems. You should contact the facility that performed your service. If the shop that performed your service used the wrong fluid type the liability falls to them for repairs unless you changed fluid because there was an issue already. If it was just maintenance to have serviced the tranny and this is end result definitely contact the repair facility.

Fluid leaking possibly from transmission

Several places the transmission can leak, pan gasket is most common place with cooler line fittings being next most common.Clean all the fluid off with a can of brake clean you can buy at a parts store.Make sure engine is off first and that the transmission has been topped off so as better to produce a leak. After it is clean crank and let idle on level ground for 30 minutes then shut it off and get a flash light and see if you have a leak and follow it to the source(fluid runs downhill like water)If you have no leak let it set overnight and check in the morning.Good luck!

I have a 2005 mitsubishi outlander. up until three days ago, it was running fine. i went out to start it one morning and it will not start. it cranks, but will not "fire". i checked the fuses...

I drive a Mits Outlander 2005 4WD Auto-transmission (see image).
This morning, I put it in D-Drive but it didnt move.
R-Reverse moves but after a chug sound.

Called a mech over the phone, he says something about a "fibre" in the tranny that need to be replaced.

Thinking back, I changed the timing-belt when it snapped last Wednesday.

Then last Saturday, while filling the AC gas, another mech checked and noticed that the front shafts had damaged plastic covers that were replaced. But ATF fluid dripped from the tranny thru the removed shafts.

While topping the ATF, this fluid spilled on some wire harness and wire-sockets on the tranny next to the dip-stick opening.

This morning, when the D-Drive failed to move the car, I noticed an extra dull glow of the green light on N-Neutral on the dash-board indicator when the stick is in the D-Drive position.
No Check-Engine light came up.

Can this spilled ATF on these cable cause the tranny to fail like this?

What can I do to correct it?

Many thanks.

no but a low fluid level could cause a slip telling the ecm there is a slip top it off then clear the code and drive a few miles if this code comes back i would say there is internal damage to the tranny

Auto transmission taking lots of fluid to fill

did you recently empty the tranni? like fluid or filter change? If not, there is a leak. I've seen the radiator go bad and tranni fluid gets forced into the cooling system. Check cooling system for reddish oily substance. If there is, replace radiator and refill tranni and cooling systems. may be a good idea to do cooling system flush.

Check Engine Light

reddish fluid can be
oil (dipstick on motor)
transmission fuild (dipstick on transmission)
brake fluid (transparent reservoir on vaccuum booster)
power steering fluid (transparent reservoir on PS pump)
maker's dye choice for the fluid filled,
Check fluid levels and top up any that are below recommended levels immediately, then monitor fluid levels and fix any that show evidence of leaks.
The check engine light is an indicator, it just says that 'something' in the list of functions it is monitoring is not right. a code reader can be plugged into a socket under the dash to reveal the most recent error codes.
Many repair shops (around here) will read the codes for you gratis, in the hope of getting the repair job.
