Question about 1983 Nissan 280ZX

1 Answer

My nissan patrol with a L28 engine does not seem to have a regular spark. I notice this when I am checking my timming using my timming gun ( light). What can I do to improve this, it seems the spark is present too often sometimes and then sometimes there is no spark, what could be the cause?

Maybe a defective ignition coil, broken high tension wires, rotor, distributor cap and other parts connected to the ignition.

Hi I have a Nissan patrol mq l28 Just replaced the alternator n the charge light staying on n when I disconnect battery it dies any ideas

the alternator is not working, is incorrectly wired up, has an open circuit to the regulator
Disconnecting a battery when running is a sure fire way to destroy the rectifier block in the alternator.

Hi I have a 1985 nissan patrol l28 motor when I turn the engine off it keeps running any ideas why ??

If it "tries" to stay running with key off, check the fuel cut solenoid on the carburetor. If it actually keeps running, the ignition switch may be bad.

Why would my 2000 gu nissan patrol be going fine then switched it off for couple of hours and it wouldn't start seems like fuel pump not switching on what would cause this problem?

I assume this is a diesel engine. Diesels are usually problem free until they start aging. One reason could be that the header pump is on its way out. This is the pump that supplies the diesel fuel to the injector pump, Your car is 14 years old already, and it is time to pick up little hassles like this.
Have the pressure from the header pump checked by a technician / service station and compare this with the factory specification (which the technician / service station should be able to give you).
When last did you have the injector nozzles tested / replaced? The nozzles are much like spark plugs on petrol engines, they have a definite lifespan and should be checked and replaced after a while. They are not overly expensive. If the service station is not reputable they might ask a lot of money for the labor to replace and set them up, but that is one of the joys of motoring.
The Patrol is an excellent truck, I used to drive one with a breakdown hoist to tow in vehicles.

My 94 nissan patrol won't idle

if you mean it stalls at idle speed then it needs a service, the idle jets seem to be blocked and need a clean.
if you mean the engine stays and high rev and will not go down to idle this might mean the automatic choke is stuck on or the throttle cable is jammed and should be looked at.

I hope this was useful.

Nissan cabster petrol truck 3 ton allways giving the truck miss

A steady miss is more likely to be a bad/dirty spark plug or plug wire. A tune-up on the distributor will probably help too. Check the inside of the distributor cap for carbon tracks from any terminal to outer rim.

2003 nissan xtrail accelorator sticks will not return to idle speed

Had same problem on a Nissan Patrol, happens more to me in winter time when some rust builds up around the cable (because the little rubber thing that prevents dirt from getting in the cable sleeve disappeared a long time ago - Normally I just lubricate it and it remains fine for another 8-10 months). Check accelerator cable for dents or splinters, if it seems ok, lubricate it and assemble again. If not, replace cable.
