Question about 2005 Ford Focus

1 Answer

I cant get any fan forced air to exit the dash vents or defroster

The fan forced air in my 2005 Ford Focus wont exit the dash vents, the defroster, or the boot warmer. The selector switch for the fans speed works; as I can hear the level increase with each number selected on the dash. The A/C and max A/C both work fine too. Its just the forced air isn't exiting the dash, anywhere. The selector switch for controling where the forced air exits doesn't seem to have as much resistance to turning as it once did, but all the same, still turns.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Air Conditioning problems.

Fan motors in cars fail commonly. They wear out the brushes and the motor stops or the fuse blows. The other issue with the mode selector may not have anything to do with the motor. The actuator on the mode selector can become stuck or broken and then the air delivery wont go to the right area. All these things should be visible under the dash or behind the glovebox.

2005 Ford Focus. Air is blowing out of the floor vents and defrost vents but not dash vents. Also the knob will not go onto the dash vent option it's like it just springs back up.

A failure has occurred in the HVAC system, legally, when a fault happens the hvac system will default to defrost/floor. Further diagnostics will be needed to determine issue.

I cannot get air to flow out of the center vents in my 2005 ford focus zx4

Duct Vent Motor under dash (Cabin Air Flow Vent)
not defrost,floor,recirculate or blend door,ones
Hope you can reach it
If you go to Motorcraft Web Site you can see a diagram
of the vent motor or actuator & order on Amazon,BUT
you have to first diagnose that is the issue & get the right
motor if it is.
I use a professional scan tool to check for codes on the
electric ones & then look under the dash to see if they move
as they should
Near impossible to get your hands up there to replace

I have a 2005 Ford Focus. My vent distribution knob turns freely but does not change air direction. It remains blowing from the defrost vents. I pooped off the face around the knobs and stereo to look...

The part you're describing is the blend door actuator. It diverts air through the different ports, (floor, vent, defrost, mix). The good news is depending on what you need (new lever or new blend door) the price runs about $30-40. As far as ease of installation, it sounds like you have unobstructed access so replacing it shouldn't be too difficult.

it could be a vaccum line thats disconnected or the bypass vent door that diverts the air is either stuck or broken.

Air blows out dash vents but not with the force it blows out the floor can watch acctuator motor move door to all positions

Either the flap that switches positions from floor/defrost/vents is stuck, or a vacuum line has came off, or there is a nest or other clog either in the fan's squirel cage or in the vent itself
