Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I bought a 1997 jeep grand cherokee 2 years ago. Because of deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, this vehicle has been in storage for all that time. Should I have all the fluids (oil and gas) replaced prior to use? Anything else I should change out?

If the vehicle was not started for 2 years, the engine may be stucked up. if it is not, the replacing the oil is ok. since 2 years is a long time you have to check everything.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start. When

Check your fuel pump ,fuel lines,.One of the most overlooked starting causes is fuel delivery. Find the fuel rail to the injectors. Assuming you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, remove the dust cap on the fitting on the fuel rail and press the center pin in the valve to see if there's a good amount of pressure for a very brief second. There will be no continuous pressure unless the engine is running or is being cranked over. Have somebody crank it for you for a second to see if high pressure is present.

If not, first look at the fuel cutoff switch usually located in the inside stowage compartment of the vehicle. See if the reset button clicks when you press it. Next check the fuel pump fuse and relay, and finally the pump itself could be bad.

1997 Jeep Cherokee air bag light on

The air bag light has come on to alert you to a system problem. Do not try to service it yourself. If you try to disconnect the system and don't know what you are doing you will deploy the air bag which can hurt you depending on your position in the vehicles interior at the time. Do the correct thing and let your dealer perform diagnosis on the system. If you deploy the air bag it will be a ver costly item to replace. Usually in excess of $1800.00 just to purchase one.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery drainage (continued)

If this jeep has a towing package, and it is a factory pakage, if I remember correctly, the left side rear inner panel by the tailgate has a module pack behind it. Disconnect it and test for draw again.
