There is no drain plug or valve on most modern radiators. You have to remove the lower radiator hose in order to drain them.

Run water over the radiator while it is still running and see if the temprature goes down. Likely your radiator is stuffed up. A rod out done by a radiator shop will save a lot of money.

How tjo do a radiator flush in a 1999 Grand AM SE

The best way to flush it is with a flush machine. But,if you don't have one then follow these steps. 1. Put a catch pan underneath, where you will be draining the fluid. 2. loosen the petcock at the bottom of the radiator. If you don't have access to it,then remove the lower radiator hose and run the car for a minute to let the rest of the fluid drain. 3. With the fluid drained out, tighten up the petcock or the hose and put a bottle of radiator flush chemical in it.Prestone makes this and you can get it at a parts store. 4. Add the contents of the bottle and fill the rest up with water. 5. Run vehicle for 10 minutes and drain. 6. Loosen the 2 pressure relief valves.1 is located on the coolant tube running from the passenger side to the drivers side. The other one is located on the thermostat tube. They are both copper in color and you will need a 10 mm wrench and a 6 mm or 7 mm wrench to loosen them up. 7. Add the recommended fluid, usually Dex-Cool for that year, until it comes out of the relief valves.Tighten the valves back up (be careful, they break easily) and run the vehicle till at proper temperature. If it seems to get a little on the hot side, Loosen the relief valve until the air bubbles are gone and top off the fluid. Please remember to dispose of the fluid properly in accordance with the law.
