As you go faster, the air flows over the radiator faster. This causes the temp to come down. When you stop the air stops also. This causes the temp to go up. If it looks like it is hot, immediately turn the car off and don't open the hood. If you feel like it runs too hot, check to see if your clutch fan, electric fan, thermostat, water pump, or radiator needs to be replaced. If it's fuel injected, they run a little hotter anyway.

Temperature pointer move up and down

Found this to be common. Has a two speed fan. Fan also goes on and off at different speeds. Operates differently with ac on are off. Should not go past the half way mark while idling on hot days and should always drop to normal position while driving. Fluctuation should not be very much Air in system, bleeder on side of fill, not on overflow. Check fan high and low speed.

Hello, I own a 1998 Altima (GXE). 160 000 km. For the last two days, the motor temperature guage needle indicates low motor temperature (1/4 between the C and the H). Yesterday I was in heavy traffic for...

First thing is the that the coolant temperature sensor is quite different to the temperature sender that is monitored on your dash board. Assuming everything is working fine the thermostat may be stuck open. This would cause coolant to be circulated without restriction and so remaining cooler than usual even when the engine is at running temperature.

Audi A3 2002 model auto - temperature gauge not working

The guage and fan speeds work on independant sensors. If you can remove the plastic engine cover and locate the "sending unit" for the gauge disconnect it and restart the engine. The gauge should remain cold and not move. If this is the case replace the sending unit. This should be a single wire sender located in the waterjacket of the intake manifold look in the area where the upper rad hose enters the intake.

1997 Geo Metro speedometer and odometer do not work

Let me guess, it goes up to about 30, stays there, and if you go faster (past what would be the halfway point of your speedometer) it starts dropping below 30. It sounds like the type of speedometer that uses two magnetic cores at 90 degrees to each other, and one has gone out.

Troubleshooting and repair should be similar to this: http://www.fieros.de/en/articles/speedo.html
