Question about 1994 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

I had my starter checked at Auto Zone and he said it was questionable because it read the voltage above 220. Is this normal or could this be what is preventing my car from clicking over.

Battery charged starter just clicking

  • Actually check batt voltage.. 12 -13 V
  • Check Batt cables.. remove them and clean them.
  • Check Alternator output.. 14V.. Is it getting to the battery? check battery while running engine.. should be receiving the 14+V Check it at the post.. not the outer edge of the cable.
  • Check Battery ground cable at chassis connection.. remove and clean..
  • Check Pos Cable at starter.. Remove and clean.
  • Last.. Remove starter and take to a Auto Zone or Oreilly Auto parts and let them check it for you.

Wondering about what a normal / good battery reading should be in 2008 beetle convertible

The battery should be over 12 volts when just sitting without engine on.How old is it?Places like NAPA or Auto Zone will check them for free.I recommend it.

My car wont start all the way. I have a Ford mustang coupe 3.8 engine 6 cylinder 2 door car. Its not the starter because I bought a new one and it almost crank up. The battery is fully charged I took it to...

If you took that battery to Auto Zone and they tested it and said it was good it may not be the battery but that would have nothing to do with it being the Alternator unless you removed the Alternator and took it in for testing and it tested good as well. If the the voltage Regulator is bad on that alternator it may not be allowing the proper amperage to the solenoid on the starter. It could possibly be the starter but if you pull the starter and take to Auto Zone they can put it on a test bench and load test it to be sure it is working. If the Starter is good and the Alternator test good as well as the battery check the cable going to the starter for a break in the insulation allowing it to ground and replace it if you find one. Also check the starter relay in the power distribution box or mounted on the drivers side fender wall, those are the locations for these on most vehicles. If all of that checks out then it will be time to look at the ignition itself. Through all of this make sure that any alarm you have installed is disabled to make sure the problem isn't a starter kill switch.

When I turn ignition to start nothing happens. Can turn engine over by jumping starter,

From what little information I have here (no info on the battery or other voltage tests - sounds like it may be ok)...
I'd say look into replacing the starter solenoid. FYI: It might be not too much more to buy the whole starter with solenoid... if so,. your choice.
Best regards
Ck

Starter problems for 88 ford aerostar van 7 passenger. how do i know its the starter or bad connection?

Test your battery and starter by doing a voltage drop test. Put one test lead of your meter on the neg side of your battery, one on the positive. Check voltage. Make sure that you are actually connecting to the battery itself and not the terminal ends. Should read 12.8-13.2. Keeping the neg in the same location move the pos to the terminal end, engage starter, meter should read above 10 volts. Continue testing down the pos wire to the starter, checking voltage, until you find less than 10 volts. If the voltage is good at starter, have someone turn key to the start position, tap starter with a hammer. if starter engages , replace starter.

CHECK BATTERY CABLES MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT.TAKE VECHICLE TO AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS STORE.LET THEM CHECK BATTERY AND STARTER IF THE BATTERY AMPS AT BATTERY CABLES ON METER SHOW HIGHER AMPERAGE THAN NORMAL YOU HAVE BAD BATTERY CABLES OR STARTER DEFECTIVE.

Have replaced alternator and battery as they both went bad. The new alternator is putting out 14 volts when tested. When in the car and the air and lights are on it drops below 12v. Put in two new...

i suggest that you drive it to an auto parts store that checks your charging system for free, advanced auto auto zone etc.etc.,there testers give the most acurate readings .as you turn on a/c light the voltage will drop from 14 from my limited knowledge on electical i think at an idle its okay as long as the voltage stays above 9.6 while under load for 15 seconds .but those guys there know the right stuff

Starter/alternator problems on 1995 Dodge Dakota

The bid cable on the starter may have had another wire on it that the alternator charges the battery threw,it may not have got reconnected,or the fusible link in that wire may have burned into.Or plain and simple the alternator went out.Check these things out and remove the alternator and have it check out to see if it is working properley.
