Is fluid red, does it smell burnt, hav gritty feel-u may need a flush--the trans is partly electronic so keep computer issues in mind--automatics r really complicated and a moving part could be bad-mite test it at a honest shop

Since the fluid level is okay, I think your gonna need a rebuilt transmission. Tow it to a good transmission shop.

1999 sable drives fine but occasionally after coming to a stop will not move forward but if you put it in reverse it will go in reverse. If you turn off car and restart it will once again drive fine.

Sounds like an electrical problem, not a mechanical problem, with the transmission. Take it to a transmission shop for diagnosis. Cost to repair should be considerably less than rebuilding the transmission.

The PO 316 is still misfires om first 1000 revolutions
so the shop did a poor job for you on resolveing the
cylinder misfires

Try a diffferent shop

Have to clean the MAF Sensor & replace upstream
oxygen sensors if over 100,000 miles

Need the correct oem spark spark plugs/any brand

No reason the gas filter should be clogged unless it was in
the car for 10 years

Fuel pressure should be checked

Need to check for cylinder misfires on a road test of 20
miles or more with professional software in Mode#06

Overheating transmission

It's done

No fix but to replace or rebuild

Why would you drive it with a leaking condition?

At best, the avg life of that transaxle is 65,000 miles

From a stop, when you start to accelerate, the car skip like the transmission is out of sync. Once it starts going it shifts fine. This only happens after the car has warmed up (5-6miles of driving).

Spark Plugs--every 70,000 miles
O2 Sensors -front 2 every 100,000 miles
Clean MAF Sensor
Check coils for misfires
Trans & power steering --Fluid every 30,000 miles

2003 Mercury Sable - transmission jerking

This is a front wheel drive vehicle and has no power-train components in the rear of the car. The noise coming from the back is not related to your transmission. I would highly reccommend going to a ford dealership as these are typically trust-worthy and always use OEM parts. I also have an 03 sable with 101k miles it has always been reliable and has original transmission. It is possible something else is hard ****.
