Whoa....
The crank pulley? Is that the large pulley at the bottom of the motor?
Also known as the "harmonic balance"?
Don't pull that one off unless you really have to... it can't be replaced since it is balanced to that particular engine...
If you have to remove it, you must replace it exactly correctly ...

The bolt is a left-hand bolt....
Turn the bolt clockwise to remove....
(not counter-clockwise like typical bolts).

Hope this helps!

Cant get crank pully bolt to brake lose

Take the starter off and wedge a block of wood or a pry bar against the ring gear teeth on the flywheel. That would hold the crankshaft steady. Are you using a good stout breaker bar to try and loosen the bolt? If you have access to an impact gun, that is what shops often use. Any friends or neighbors with an impact tool? If you can drive the car to a shop, you could have them loosen it for you, then tighten it just enough to get you back home to finish working on it.
Here is a method I have used and it works great, but do it at your own risk, it is not recommended: With the car on the ground, use a 1/2 inch breaker bar and socket on the bolt. The end of the bar needs to be resting on the ground, and situated so that when the starter is bumped over-just a quick bump of the starter-the engine crankshaft turns just a little bit, but the breaker bar will keep the bolt from turning with the crank-it will loosen the bolt. Just one quick bump from the starter and I was able to loosen the pulley bolt on a Chrysler this way. Lots of DIY mechanics have done this, but as I said, not recommended. But if carefully done, and breaker bar is situated in right position-it will loosen the bolt. Post back if you don't understand. Good luck.

I am trying to replace the timing belt on a 95 camry. and cant seem to get the bolt out of the crank pully. Is it a lefthand thread bolt. Or is ther a trick to getting it loose. thanks

If you dont have a impact gun, heres a trick, first, see if the crank goes clock wise direction,if it does, put the socket whit a long brackerbar in a way that will hold it self, then crank the engine whit the starter, whit the ignition key.

I am trying to replace the harmonic balancer pully on a 1996 taurus lx with a 3.0 v6 i know the pully bolt is revers thead . I tried to loosen with an electric impact but would not budge what am i not...

Your impact gun may not be strong enough. Ive taken many off in the past and They are extremely tight. Juat keep working at it and i would recommend soaking it in WD-40 or some other kind of penetrating oil.

Trying to remove crankshaft hub in order to change timing belt. I'm thinking its reverse thread but it needs to be kept from turning the belt in the process. Any ideas? 94 Ford Ranger

Hi:
The bolt is a normal, right hand thread, and it is tough to keep the engine from turning while you brake it loose. There are several methods, but I have used a chain wrench on the hub, and I protect the hub with an old section of belt,

Is the bolt on the crankshaft pully right or left hand threads?

The crank pulley bolt on most Honda engines are very difficult to loosen. Most 1/2" impact guns are just are not strong enough to loosen them. The choice is yours to either use a 3/4" impact gun, the bolt is left losey, righty tighte

Crankshaft removal

If it's turning the crank and not allowing you to loosen. It's torqued down pretty tight as well. If you have access to an air impact wrench (1/2') and a large socket, it should solve your problem. If you don't have access or enough room to put one in, take a socket and ratchet handle and "shock" it by hitting it with a mallet or hammer. Here's the kicker: it's most likely left-hand thread so it's righty loosey, lefty tighty... let me know how it goes...

HOW TO REMOVE BOLT FROM PULLY ON CRANK PULLY

They are usually in there pretty tight. If drivable, you can have someone loosen it up with a shop air gun.
Thread is not reverse.
There is a second way to remove it...Use a solid 1/2" breaker bar with the correct size impact socket. You need to support it and brace it against the floor. Then "bump" the engine over Don't crank, just bump. The engine crank will unscrew itself from the bolt. Be careful doing this if socket and bar get loose they can damage you and stuff around the area where you're working. I use a pipe driven into the ground with a pair of vise grips attached to the breaker bar to keep it at the right height. (bar goes inside the end of the pipe)
