FILL COOLANT TO CORRECT LEVEL.RAISE HOOD.CRANK ENGINE LET IT IDLE UNTIL COOLANT GET HOT.AND THERMOSTAT OPEN.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE.CHECK ALL HOSES FOR LEAKS.CHECK RADIATOR FOR LEAKS.CHECK AROUND INTAKE AREA.ALSO CHECK ENGINE OIL.IF IT LOOK MILKY.YOU HAVE HEAD GASKET LEAK.IF YOU SEE NO LEAKS.YOU COULD HAVE TOO MUCH WATER THAN COOLANT.YOU NEED 50/50 MIXTURE OF ANTIFREEZE AND WATER. .

Considering it's age we can probably rule out any head gasket problems because also, you haven't mentioned any rough running problems. So, I would say you might have a water pump shaft seal that is going. This often only shows up while you are driving so you don't get to see it. But, if you place a piece of clean cardboard under the front section of the motor overnight, while it cools it will leak a few indicative drops. At least you'll see or not see if it's the water pump. Also grab a flashight and check all the heater hoses while the engine is running, for a pinhole. This is not at all uncommon. Look for telltale signs of green or red coolant left behind.

Do you see coolant leaking anywhere? do you smell coolant fumes in your exhaust?if both no it is probably the heater core one trick is to add radiator treatment that seals leaks inside the cooling system including the heater core prestone has one, just follow directions carefully no shortcuts it could fix the problem.let me know.

Check your heater core. I had a 98 saturn that did the same thing and didnt realize what it was until my heater didnt seem to be as hot. Should be under the dash most likely toward passenger side. Look in a repair book to be sure.

I have a 1999 Audi A4 Avant, I keep having to top up the water reservoir, what could the problem be?

If you are talking about the reservoir for the radiator, the radiator pulls coolant in from the tank when it is low.
If you are adding coolant - water every week and there are no external leaks, the engine is burning the coolant out the exhaust pipe.
Usually a leaking head gasket - intake gasket or cracked head.

Coolant disappearing

If you are adding coolant every week, and you don't see any external leaks, the coolant is probably being burned thru the engine.
You can burn a couple of quarts a week and not see any smoke.
At some point in time you could pull the spark plugs and find evidence from the burning coolant.
Most common cause is a leaking head gasket or intake gasket.

Oil pressure light went on on my 2000 audi a4 1,8t. What should i do?

could be sender or pump. do not run the engine until you're sure you have a good pump. Does it blink on and off--coming on mainly at idle? This would be normal for an old engine. If it stays on and the pump is bad, you will ruin your engine. You can try replacing the sending uniot, as that is cheap compared to the pump, but don't run it long to check new sender. If new sender stays red, shut down and replace pump.

Check the coolant temperature sensor housing in back of the engine. This is made out of plastic on some model years A4 and eventually leaks coolant.
