Wondering if anyone could tell me which transmission a 2002 ford f150 7700 5.4l has? a 4r100 or 4r70w.

If that is a super duty model it is likely the 100 be that as it may the 4R100 is an updated E40D. It is available with the 5.4 in the F-150 only with the California emissions package. Otherwise you get the 4R70W

you can usually "decode" the vin number. here is the link for that

2002 F-150 4X4 extended cab manual transmission removal

If you can get to the bolts that hold the retaining plate on top of the transmission, I believe there are six but not sure, you can unbolt it and remove the tower. Be careful and try not to get dirt inside. It has been a little while since I've done it, but it did work. Just keep in mind it will have to go back on.

go to NAPA and check on a price of a speedo cable because it sounds as if the gears are worn on yours either the wheel or the transmission end that is why you are having this problem
