Have you had a free code scan done at Pep Boys or Autozone, to see if any trouble codes are present? Might be a good place to start, then get back if you need more help.

Burning plastic smell when cold out run heater and fan inside car and out

Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

Engine cranks but doesn't start

Hi Donald, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Donald, sense you have a burning smell and a starting and running issue, I would start by checking all the wiring and connectors to see if they are burnt OR may have fell onto the exhaust somewhere and melted the wiring. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website here: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

Burning smell

If it smells like burning a burning plastic/ceramic then your brakes are locking up and burning. Next time it does it, see if the smell is coming from the rear tire. if so, its time for a brake job

What's your problem?1996 chevy cavalier dash warning light has a red arrow pointing towards water and car smells like something is burning P

The light does it say Water? You are sure about this? Please have this checked by a mechanic asap,. if it is starting to run hot if you catch it early then you can avoid serious damage to the engine. The smell may be a leaking engine water pump or other component of the engines cooling sytstem.

I have a 2010 hhr. My battery dies if the door is open for just a couple of minutes.

Whoa! are you serious? If it drains the battery that fast, you either have a few dead cells in the battery, or there is a short circuit in the door switch.

If it was the switch you could seriously smell something cooking among the wires. 600+amps dead short through an 18 gauge wire = melted insulation and red glowing copper! (also known as fire hazzard)
Since you didn't mention smelling anything or electrical frying sounds, I'm leaning toward a bad battery. Have the battery tested at your local autozone for free. It should still be under warranty methinks.

Hope this helps you out.

My door locks stopped working, I was sitting at a red light and smelled a burning smell. My dash lights no longer worked. I have head lights but no tail lights. I took it to the mechanic and asked him to...

A major short. I wouldn't use the car. Especially if you smelled a burning smell. because your car can catch fire. This is very rare to happen to a car, but take it to an electrical system repair garage.

o2 sensors will have to be changed. You should change them when exhaust is warm. Make sure you use an 02 socket only
