Quite simply, if there is a drain plug, then loosen it and wait till all the fluid has come out.If there is not a drain plug, than you have to loosen all the pan bolts in a rotational motion and leave the very front ones in as you remove the rest the fluid will start dripping around the rear of the pan. Use a large pan to collect the fluid, an old refridgerator bottom drawer works quite well. Now the reason for leaving the front bolts in but loose is all the fluid will come out to the rear instead of flowing down your arms to the elbow which I find quite uncomfortable. Once the fluid slows down remove the remaing bolts and keep track of the direction of the pan as it comes off. Pour the rest of the fluid from the tranny pan into your collector. Look at the small magnet stuck to the bottom of the pan, there will be a small amount of metal filings, this is normal. Clean the pan and the magnet. Some filters are screwed in and others pop off of a rubber grommet. You'll know what you've got when you see it. Again keep an eye on the position of the filter as you remove it. Put the new filter in, place the gasket on the pan and keep it in place with four or six bolts until you get it started back in place. Then just tighten them in a military rotation(ask a friend if you don't know what this means. I can't type any longer. Fill iyt with the specified amount of fluid from your specs in the owners manual. Good luck,Dana

Can't find where transmission fluid goes in 1999 Lexus RX 300

there is no cap, to add transmission fluid you must pour it through the dipstick pipe. Transmission fluid should not decrease in leavel unless you have a leak. I would have it checked if you are losing trans fluid!!

Lexus rx300 2002 hard shift between 1st and 2nd. Fluid and filter changed 3000mi ago, car has 93000mi

The 1999-2003 Lexus RX300 models have a common failure of the engine computer that causes the harsh shifting of the transmission. You need to get the computer (ECM - Engine Control Module) rebuilt or replaced before it causes permanent damage to the transmission. Even if the transmission is already ruined, the ECM will still need to be repaired. Most often, the transmission is fine though, and rebuilding the ECM will restore the smooth shifts that the Lexus should have. Circuit Board Medics can rebuild the ECM and reprogram it so that you only have to plug it back in when you get it back. See the link below:

ATF for 1994 Lexus GS 300

I know from experience that you should only use manufacturer recommended fluids in your transmission, Especially toyota, they are very peculiar about the fluids you use in them. Although the fluid you put in it may not cause any harm, it is always best to use the fluids recommended.

Automatic Transmission question.

If there is no dipstick then most likely their is a level screw. Will look simular to the drain screw. Unscrew and if fluid comes out their is enough fluid in the transwmition. If not fill fluid into the level screw hole until it starts to run out.
