Question about 1985 Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

Key won't fit into ignition

Worked fine all day today, but now the key will only go about 3/4 of the way into the ignition. It goes far enough to get a door open alert, but nowhere close to far enough to turn the engine on. Any suggestions?

Hello there:
if you have a spare key try that key if not try to use some w-d 40 or a good silicone spray and leave it sit for 3 minutes and spray again and then try the key if not the tumbler assy may have failed and needs to be replaced ok?

Sounds to me like you need a new ignition switch. Take the vehicle to a mechanic and have them further evaluate.

99 malibu, key won't turn in ignition (it's new cylinder and casing that worked fine before I changed gear shift back to park and connected the battery)

Shake ya sterring wheel from side to side and try turning ya key. The lock could be stuck and needs to be freed up. This should do the trick.

Key turns fine. Car won't turn on. Won't even crank. Sometimes pushing key further into the ignition switch with a bit of pressure helps. Battery is one year old.

What you are saying is the key switch is worn out, and there is a separate problem with the engine performance.
Either an import shop or the dealer are your options here.

2005 Blazer key won't turn in the ignition

You may want to try to slightly push / pull your vehicle to take weight / tension off the transmission, which in turn will allow you to turn the steering wheel enough to see if the ignition switch can be turned.

If you hear the sound of the electric latch switch, then it's working but stuck somehow. Just put the key in the switch and turn it to the right and then pull up the trunk or ask someone to help you. it will open. I tried it today and it opened with me. It was stuck from inside by some kind of a broken plastic pieces. Just removed it and now it's working fine. good luck

THE IGNITION KEY WON"T COME OUT> I"VE TRIED

Under the steering column there is a small plastic piece that can be removed from the lower cover. Remove that piece. the hole will be big enough to put your finger in. If you look you will see the park lock cable where it attaches to the ignition lock cylinder housing. Push/pull lightly on that. It will move in one direction. As soon as you feel it move turn the key to the off position.
