On almost all cars if you follow the upper radiator hose to where it goes into the motor, that is where the termostate is.

My engine symbol came out on my 2006 colorado and i checked it with the the computer and it gave me p0171

So many different variables can cause that code, it is impossible to help you directly with out any further information.

Is the intake stock? Have you worked on the truck recently or had the truck worked on recently? Have you installed a home made intake or after market intake kit?

Loose or removed oil fill cap
Disconnected valve cover breather line
Mushroom filter installed on valve cover breather line
Misc. Vacuum leaks on intake system

Colorado systems are different than a typical positive pressure system. It is drawing air from under the hood through the mushroom filter into the engine because there is a vacuum at the breather port on the valve cover. You can't modify the newer engines like the older ones. The sensors are to sensitive to change. Thus you start running rich or lean because the reading are wrong and the PCM is correcting the fuel flow improperly.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck and also you may want to try to clean your MAF sensor if you have not modified any components.

Installing a chrome engine dress up kit 79 chrysler cordoba

I have done this with my '79, so yes it will work. Although my car is a 360 four barrel, the external engine size is identical. The black box on the stock air cleaner is the "Electronic Spark Advance" computer. It replaced the more well known "Lean Burn" as the ignition/fuel management system. Since you will be disconnecting and discarding the ESA due to the air cleaner change, another ignition system must be installed to replace it - if someone has not already done so. I used a Mopar Performance electronic ignition system-still available for about 200.00. This will not hurt anything. The chrome valve covers fit right on. However on my car, the vacuum amplifier bracket was attached to the right side value cover which I cut off the stock cover and screwed into the chrome cover. I sealed the screw holes with gasket sealer. I do not know exactly what you are referring to regarding the cover connecting the value cleaner to the crankcase breather. There is a hose from the breather which connects to a fitting on the air cleaner. This hose allows the crankcase to vent into the carburetor during wide open throttle conditions when the engine vacuum-operated PCV cannot function. I do like the chrome effect even if it does require more care and maintenance. Good luck!
