Im trying to remove the transmission on my 1994 gmc 4 wheel drive im binding up on the transfercase can i pull the back cross beam

You have to remove the transfer case from the transmission.

Wireing harness needs disconnected
Transmision lines need disconected
If 4 wheel drive then transfer case needs removed
front and rear drive shafts need removed
If you have torsion bars they need to come out.
Then if im correct there are 8 bolts on the bell housing and the transmission cross member has 4 bolts if your exhaust pipe is in the way then that also has to come out.
Dont forget to take off your shift cable
Before you can remove the transmission you will need to take off the 4 to 8 tourqe converter bolts through your inspection port or the transmission will stay locked to the flywheel and you can pull and pry all you want and not move it at all.

Drain the transmission and T case. Remove the drive shafts. Jack the transmission up just a bit and remove the mount nuts and remove the cross member. lower it, remove the T case and any linkage and connectors going to it. You may have to remove the exhaust to have room to get the transmission out. Remove the starter, remove the torque converter bolts through the starter hole. Disconnect linkage and any other connectors going to the transmission, disconnect the cooler lines. Remove any brackets holding the transmission to the engine. remove the transmission bell bolts. Pull back a couple inches and drop the transmission. 4 hour job on a lift, 8 on the ground. 2 or 3 days if it your first time.

How the trans& transfercase bolt to frame


Are you wanting to remove the transmission and transfer case? If so, I advise that you have a good place to work and preferably a transmission jack. While fairly familiar with them, I haven't removed a transmission from a 4-wheel drive Dodge Dakota, but know they're considered to be one of the more difficult ones to do. Have you done this sort of thing before? That said, I can give you instructions. The transmission doesn't actually bolt to the frame. It bolts to the engine bell-housing and there'll be a rubber mount at the rear which probably fastens it to the cross-member with 2 bolts. There are several small things which have to be disconnected/removed, like wiring, the speedometer cable, both drive-shafts, etc. Let me know if you want to remove the transfer case and transmission or just the transfer case.

How do you put in 4 wheel drive


Before you start the vehicle lock the hubs in by turning the lock out device in the hub center of each front hub. Now you can start the vehicle and while in park or neutral move the range selector on the floor to the range you would like to use. Most often you will use the 4 wheel high setting. The low setting is only for extremely heavy pulling and will throw you across the seat if you accelerate too hard. Never exceed 45 miles per hour when in 4 wheel drive as you will burn out the transmission or 4X4 transfercase bearings. Now to go back to two wheel drive. Move the floor selecter back to 2 wheel drive setting. Do this with the vehicle in park or neutral to prevent damage to the vehicle. Now you can unlock the hubs by reversing the hub lock out device in the center of the two front hubs. Important little known fact is that you do not want to drive aroind with the hubs constantly locked in as you will lower your fuel mileage and cause extra wear to the axles and associated parts. 1994 gmc rear axle removal how to


-Remove tire and brake drum
-put drain pan under axle housing
-remove rear axle housing cover (10 or 12 bolts)
-turn gear untiil the bolt for cross shaft shows and remov e the bolt
-remove the cross shaft.
-push axle in until you can remove "U" clip from axle and axle will pull out,
Remove seal, you need a pulller to remove axle brg.

if its the 2wheel drive version, the factory says it can pull 5,500 lb. if its the all wheel drive version, the factory says 5,000lb
