My 2001 ford excursion has always run perfect. going up a mountain got some detonation and after have a low rpm sputter. knock sensor?

It is sometimes difficult to determine exactly what is wrong with the 7.3L engines. Many times it is hit and miss for the do-it-yourselfer. It sounds like you are getting enough fuel at first and then fuel is being constricted. For a simple fix, you might want to try changing the fuel filter. It could also be that the fuel pump is worn out and is not providing enough constant pressure. It could be that pressure is escaping from worn out o-rings around the fuel injectors, a moderately expensive repair, about $200 for only the 8 o-rings. If the culprit is the Injection Pressure Regulator solenoid (IPR), it is a fairly simple repair that anyone can do with the right tool and the skill to change a spark plug. I found an IPR online for about $160. I hope this helps, if not come back to FixYa and I will be glad to assist you further.

2000 xterra v6 when it warms up it starts to miss badly, sputter and die. When it cools off it runs fine. I get a knock sensor (p0325) code on th ecomputer.


well i wouldnt place any emphasis on a generic code like this ,they dont always read correct especially on europeon market vehicles ,My first thought is the autochoke temperature sensor ,so when its cold it runs but when it warms up its running rich ,or a O2 sensor heater is playing up

knock sensor ??? dont think this is refering to the airbag but more like a sensor to `prevent pre detonation of fuel ,check the heater circuits on the O2 sensors ,their the two wires the same colour ,disconnect the plug and see if you have continuity across these two wires ,their are two sensors on this year one before and one after the cat ,not sure what is bank one though so check all four ,cant find this vehicle in my alldata books ,diesel yes i have a customer X trail but V6 petrol i have never seen

Dtc po321 on a 94 buick park ave runs good check engine light comes on at 2nd start up i replaced;crank sensor cam sensor and modlue


po321 inthe code for the knock sensor error.look for any unusual knock type sounds, such as , noisy rocker arm, harmonic balanced rubber getting loose, or detonation from low octain fuel, or egr malfunction. check to be sure sensor wiring is ok, or that it's not unplugged.knock sensor is there to detect detonation (spark knock) so pcm can ****** timing.

What is a knock sensor


here goes for a 1 Tu. this sensor detects detonation in the engine caused by a dirty piston head dirty valves and valve train. When it detects this detonation it tells the computer to ****** the timing so it does not burn a hole in the pistons, at the same tie it tells the computer this the computer adjust the fuel mixture ratio to decrease hot soak detonation which can occur after running the engine getting it hot and turning it off for 5 minutes and causing the gas to pre ignite due to the heat of the engine. This device is made of piezoelectric material which generates a voltage due to sound running threw the knock sensor, Ceramic disks wafered together and it has a preset low and high voltage low voltage is 1.0 DC VOLTS high is 4.0 volts dc WITH 5 VOLTS DC as a reference voltage for testing purposes. to see if it is working tap near the knock sensor and if it is working you will notice a variation in the running of the engine as it changes timing and fuel mix to stop detonation.

how is the transmission oil level is it filled to the proper level

have you ever replaced the filter in the transmission it may be full of clutch grime

Try higher octane and decarbon engine. fuel filter good idea also. sounds like detonation

2001 ford windstar makes a "pinging" noise when taking off


pinging noise low octane. mix gasoline half and half.half 87 and half 89.run it severals days if it still ping have it scan to check detonation sensor.a bad detonation sensor will also make car ping alot.

P0332 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

This sensor signals the engine-control computer when detonation is detected, momentarily retarding ignition timing until detonation ceases.

Most computer-controlled systems use knock sensors to ****** timing when the engine is experiencing pinging or knocking.


Obviously, a faulty knock sensor produces problems that appear to be ignition-system-related. If the knock sensor system does not provide an engine detonation signal to the PCM (powertrain control module), the engine detonates, especially on acceleration.
  • The first step in diagnosing the knock sensor and knock sensor module is to check all the wires and connections in the system for loose connections, corroded terminals, and damage.
  • With the ignition switch on, be sure that 12 volts are being supplied through the fuse to the knock sensor module.
  • A quick check of a knock sensor is to watch the ignition's timing while the engine is running and the engine block is tapped with a hammer.
    • The noise should cause a change in timing.
  • The knock sensor can also be checked by tapping near the sensor and watching for an AC pulse on a DMM or lab scope.

After warm up starts to have a dead miss


Depending on the miles and how you keep it serviced, the catalytic converter can have some blockage and the backpressure can cause this. It happened to my excursion.
