It could be a hose leak or blockage, or the EGR valve itself or the EGR solenoid or at worst the ECM.

How do I Fix a PO401 code for a 1997 Ford Explorera with a 5.0 engine

po401 is insufficient air flow from EGR valve. check the vacuum hoses from egr, if ok, remove or test the egr valve itself and try to clean it out. Good-Day! It may just be sticking, from carbon buildup.

Egr PO401

Code 401 is for low EGR air flow. The EGR valve allows exhaust gas to be recirculated back thru the intake and reburned.
The problem could be the EGR valve, the sensor, or a blocked line.

I have the code PO401 AND PO402 codes on my 2002 focus, any suggestions?

PO401: EGR insufficient flow detected
PO402: EGR excessive flow detected

A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

What is po401?

Insufficient EGR flow.

It could be the valve. The vacuum switching valve, the position sensor, plugged EGR passages, or plugged passage in the intake.

Engine light on code reads po401

I believe this code is insufficient EGR flow. On this engine, the passages to the EGR valve often become carboned up and cause this code. Remove the EGR valve and inspect the passages to see if they need to be cleaned.

My system has reported some codes. po0455 and po401. what does it mean? and how can i fix it

401 is EGR flow insufficient, and 455 is a leak in Evaporative emission control system. First off, make sure gas cap is on tight, and threads & "O" ring are clean on cap & filler neck. Secondly, I'd look at all vacuum lines etc in area of purge canister & EGR system, for loose, cracked, and /or broken off.
