The light bulb has 2 filaments to reponse to 2 different function. Check that bottom wires in the attach image fitting correctly. You can swap the bulb from working side to see if there is a problem if wiring. Here is the attachment. I have a 2001 Saturn SC2. One of the rear running - 7547a59.jpg

No brake lights on 1996 saturn sc2

So the taillights work, but they don't get brighter when you push the pedal? What about the third brake light? If this is the case you need a new brake light switch, it is easy to change and is right on the stick that connects the brake pedal to the rest of the car. also I assume you know how to change a bulb and ruled that out.

it looks like this and costs $25

Left rear Brake light bulb out . How does the bulb encasement / lens come out ?

Hi, I will make this brief. Pop the trunk and change it from inside. The bulb just grasp it, push a little, and turn it. It will come right out. Good luck,

My rear brake light is not working. I've tried replacing the bulb. Is there something else I can try?

check the fuse for the brake lights. then your brake light switch. Be certain the correct bulb was installed..and the socket for the light is not melted or deformed.

Back up lights do not work on 2001 Saturn SL2. All other lights work fine.

If your bulbs and fuse are good, then you will need to check the switch located on the side of the transmission. It will have several wires coming out of it. This switch controls your reverse lights
