Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan
I can't give you specifics because it's a difficult problem to trouble shoot this way. What I can tell you is the error codes are not specific. For instance, P0340 will show up if there is a loose wire in the camshaft circuit sensor harness. But it doesn't discriminate between that and a bad sensor. So the camshaft sensor may or may not have been the problem. The possible causes of this code are
1) A wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken,
2) A failed PCM,(power control module),
3) An open circuit,
4) A failed crankshaft position sensor.
Your going to have to inspect the wire for any problems. If you can, check all the wires for continuity. A good idea is to pull all the relevant plugs and cote them with some die-electric spray.
If you still have the same issue you may need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Or possibly the PCM unit.
Sorry I can be more helpful.

On that model,it could be the timing chain has jumped,or broke. If this is so,you need a mechanic to replace the timing chain,it is a deep job.Take the cam shaft sensor back off.Look in at the cam,and have someone crank the engine over and over, and see if the cam is turning. If the cam is turning, this will tell you the timing chain is not broke. But it does not tell you if the chain has jumped.Lining the crank at top dead center, and looking at the cam reluctor will. The cam reluctor will line up with the cam sensor pretty much perfect. If this checks out, then make sure the reluctor has not come loose or is missing. If I can help let me know.
