Question about 2001 Isuzu Rodeo

2 Answers

2001 Isuzu Rodeo V-6 4WD Check Engine light on. ABS light has been on 2 years though all brake components are good, and it brakes very well. Took to reputible Auto shop. Shop says can't fix, since they are getting multiple codes, intermitent codes etc. Problem; it runs fine, except its getting very poor milage, like 10 MPG where it once got 20. I replaced plugs recently in hope of milage improvement, but no change. Old plugs were even burn, clean, carbon free, just ideal, even though they had been in for 110,000 miles. Shop thinks it might be a coil, but not sure and I don't want to experiment at 170.00 times 6. Any help out there?

Instead of guessing what are the codes. to quickly test the coil remove one spark plug wire at a time to see if the idle changes on the motor. you will also see the spark "jumping" from the coil to the spark plug wire. it should be a rather intense snapping sound. if it is weak you have found one of your problems. i mention one as it may be more then one thing. but first what are the codes. if your mechanic didn't tell you... stop by autozone and they will scan the codes for free.

Per your description, I assume you are not concerned with the ABS issue and would only like to fix the fuel consumption problem.
Depending on how long ago you had the codes checked, if it hasn't been more than a couple of weeks and you have a list of the codes found, reply back with the numbers so we can get started.
If you don't have the codes or it has been too long, take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan for codes, write the codes down and reply back.
As it stands now, you could have a sensor or out put controller issue. Until we can get the codes, you will only be replacing parts.
Let me know what those codes are.

If you don't want to experiment at 170.00 times 6, you need to have the codes read and respond back.

Isuzu rodeo brakes will not stop vehicle

check brake pads for thickness and discs for condition (both sides). Have it taken to an accredited brake shop for a full evalution of why the system has failed.

2001 Rodeo 6 cylinder. ABS light comes on when I start car. Have had the brakes check and they tell me there is no problem. Car has about 115,000 miles on original brakes but I am told it still has...

The ABS will come on and stay lit for a couple seconds when you start the car. It should then extinguish. This is normal operation. If it stays lit there is a problem and the ABS will not be available, although the brake system is still fully operational. Leave a message if this is not solved.

My check engine light is on. My mechanic said it was the rear wheel speed sensor. That was replaced the brake light and the ABS lights are still on.

could be that your abs sensor is bad.. or that your brake pump is going out. my bmw has the abs light on and has always had it.. car drives fine for 3 years now :)

Brake slippage

It sounds like a wheel sensor is failing, this will trip the ABS and cause the brakes to feel a bit weird. You will need to press the brake harder to stop if the ABS getts tripped.

The brake light and Rr Abs light come on with my 1996 Rodeo also. Sometimes the light turns off while I'm driving. The brakes work fine either way. What's the deal?

Rear ABS Light/Rear brakes drag sometimes

The only moving parts on brake's are caliper's and master cylinder. The rest are just pipe's. Dosent sound like the master cylinder as the two back brakes should lock not one. It still sounds like caliper's. Can you be sure they have changed them If it were mine I would get someone independent to check they have done the work they say they done.

Brake light works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.

There is a switch mounted just above brake pedal, check that it is not sticking when you press pedal.
