Why does my Jeep odometer needle go to zero and gas peddle not work while I am driving down the road?

I don't have a solution for you yet. If I may ask for additional information please? Does the "Check Engine" light ever come on? Either way why not take it to an auto parts store like AutoPalace / Autozone / or PepBoys etc. where they offer a free computer analysis of you automobile's on board computer & engine control unit. Perhaps there is a message there that could help you diagnost the problem. Good luck.

Drive vehicle down the road for 20 minutes and come to a stoplight engine stops when you take foot off gas peddle and go to apply brake. To keep vehicle from dying you have to hold the gas peddle down

Have you changed the timing belt? or timing belt guides? How many miles? This does not necessarily have to do with fuel.... Could have to do with air intake or timing as well....

Your alternator has failed. Remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts chain. Please let me know if you have questions or need instructions, and thanks for using Fixya.

When i press on gas peddle the truck shakes

Is the check engine light on? Could be that the engine is misfiring, or broken motor mount causing the truck to shake when you press the gas pedal.

I was driving down the road and the truck just quit. it cranks very well, but no intentions of turning over. i checked the spark, good but even when i puur gas in the carb. nothing happens

this sounds like a bad fuelpump, try spraying starting fluid in throtle instead of pouring gas, when you pour gas it may not enter all cylinders it may just sit in intake galley. try the starting fluid.also have someone crank the engine while you beat on bottom of gas tank with a rubber hammer, this sometimes shakes fuelpump and make a contact to get pump going again.

When I am going down the road my truck shakes really bad. But only when I am on the gas. What could be wrong with it?

it could be a "U-joint" in the driveshaft, a bad tire on the drive axle,a harmonic balancer on the front of the engine

You may need your steering realigned, also, make sure you have your wheels bolted on straight. If those clear, get your spindles checked, along with your shocks.

20 year old vacuum hoses are done. Replace all you can. The little plastic ones too. They control everything, transmission, computer, fuel, brakes, everything.

Truck starts and idles down as normal. If one guns it the revs will soar. If one tries to increase the rpm gradually the engine quits at about 2000 rpm. At this point if one lifts ones foot of the gas...

You may have a vacuum leak. My problem was with the L-shaped rubber hose at the top of the engine near the firewall. It had collapsed and dry-rotted. Replaced it and my truck runs like a gem. I believe it was fouling out my coils on plugs. This may not work, but would not hurt to try. Good Luck!
